I just discovered that the friendly folks at the United States Homeland Security have a program to clear up mistaken identities. As many of us know, everyone who travels by air in the US has to receive clearance from the Gov’t. Sometimes one’s name appears on a secret list and that causes much trouble at the airport. There is a system called TRIP (The Department of Homeland Security’s Travel Redress Inquiry Program (DHS TRIP)) that purports to allow the user to clear his/her name. Successful use of this system gives the traveler a unique number to go along with your name. The combination is supposed to make it easier to travel.

Has anyone had reason to avail themselves of this procedure? Does it work?
