… buy it or not? Renting a car at Frankfurt, Germany airport late November, and I don’t rent cars that often, so your advice is appreciated.

Called MasterCard and was told that my card would cover the collision/damage and to opt out of it at Frankfurt.

If you have car insurance in the good ol’ USA and you are renting outside of USA & Canada (and up to 50 miles south of the border for many policies) your own policy will probably cover you, but you want to call YOUR insurer to make sure.

No insurance company I have ever heard of will cover you in Europe in this way–pay the pirates at the counter for the CDW.
