Travel Question: Ever Been To Füssen, Germany?

That’s the home of Ludwig’s castle Neuschwanstein. I’ll be taking my friend there in December, and was wondering if anyone can recommend a decently priced B&B? We’ll only be staying one night? I’ve googled already, but a recommendation from y’all who have been would go a long way toward my final decision.

(Unless you trashed the place, that is!:D)

Thanks

I was there. Twice, actually. Once in February, and then again in August. I still find it hard to decide which was the better time to visit - that place is just so damn beautiful!

IIRC, you won’t find any decently priced B&Bs. Fuessen is pretty much inundated with tourists 365 days a year, so there’s no real reason for the landlords to charge decently! The first time I visited, I wasn’t sure about how long I would want to stay, so I did look up the internet, and the prices blew me away. Of course, I was a poor student from India then, so everything was too expensive…

OTOH, unless you want to stay overnight, you can easily cover the village and castle in less than a day, and be back in Munich by late evening. And then hit Kunstpark Ost

Yep. We stayed in a hostel in Munich and took the first train out. Were there by the first tour in the morning (also were cheap college students). We did the first tour and the other castle, Hohenschwangau, first. That tour was empty as everyone was headed to Neuschwanstein. By the time we got to Neuschwanstein, their was a lull in the tours and we walked right in to an pretty empty Neuschwanstein tour.

Warning, the “hills” up to these castles are challenging to walk if you are in less than good shape. Take it easy.

Fussen is INCREDIBLY crowded, especially during the tourist season. When we were there, the city was just jam-packed. It’d be easier (and better) to stay somewhere outside of town. There are a lot of zimmer freis to stay in outside of town.
