A friend just pointed out this article about the collection of musical instruments that have been in storage at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Oh, how I hope they can successfully restore all of these and put them on display.
Better still, if they can use them for public performance!
Museums are like Indiana Jones’ warehouse, it seems.
That same friend just sent me this link to the National Music Museum at the University of South Dakota. YouTube video, narrated by Tom Brokaw, can be found here.
Damn it, I’m supposed to be getting some work done today!
WordMan, you nailed it in one!
Damn. I made my first and only trip there for a conference in March. I used my free day to check out the restored art Deco train station there. I stand by my choice.
If you like old musical instruments, my old thesis supervisor at Carleton just finished the ceremonies behind the restoration of an 18th century pianoforte, one of only a dozen or so of its ilk in existance in the WORLD.
Glad to see my old Alma Mater is getting some well deserved publicity.
I’ve been to that South Dakota one, and it really is as cool as it sounds.
It’s also not as remote as just saying “South Dakota” makes it sound. If you’re in the Omaha area, that museum can be a day trip.
