There were trees planted along my street when I was a kid in San Diego (Clairemont). I thinkthis might be one. The leaves were about an inch and a half to two inches long, narrow and pointed at both ends, ISTR waxy (shiny), and bowed. But it’s been a decade since I was there and didn’t have reason to notice them. My description could be wrong. Heck, I could be remembering the leaves on our olive tree we had in our yard. The most memorable thing about them is their seed bods. These were brown and shaped and sized like chocolate chips. They were my nemesis on my skateboard.
Assuming they were the ones in the link, what kind of tree are they?
Probably Pacific Madrone, seeds profusely, the seeds darken as they ripen and are about the right size. The Texas variety is called Ladies Legs, doesn’t reproduce readily so it’s not used in landscaping. Funny, those little houses would run about 50,000.00 here in Texas, probably over a million in SD.
I don’t remember the bark being like that. Also, the seeds were different. ISTR that the bottom of the hard brown shell was open, and there were three seeds inside. Again, it’s been decades since I’ve looked at them. I could be misremembering.
FWIW, my childhood home is listed at $503,000. It’s 1,288 square feet, 3 BR, 2 BA, 6,300 square foot lot.
