Yes but all the islands where rats have been eradicated by DOC are uninhabited, and access is controlled. Clearing Lord Howe, and keeping it clear would be roughly equivalent to clearing Stewart Island. Do the rat free areas of Canada have severe winters?
OK, it crossed my mind, but in truth, I’ve not yet quite managed to get past my visceral reluctance to eat insects. It makes no sense, as I’ve happily eaten crabs, shrimp, snails, limpets, squid, etc.

The entire province of Alberta is maintained free of rats. Here is the Agriculture Alberta article on the program and here is an article from a couple years ago on their “rat scare.”
