Trends you'll be glad to see go away

What makes you think that it has anything to do with looking sexy? For some strange reason, 12 years of “Bull-from-Night-Court” comparisons haven’t left me with the impression that my hairstyle (or lack thereof) is a turn-on to anyone. It is, however, really comfortable and convenient. 5 minutes with my Mach 3, and I can shave everything from the neck up. Well, ok, I leave the eyebrows (or, “eyebrow” in my case).

Actually, the fact that shaved heads got trendy kinda bugged me too, until I realized that people had quit assuming I was some kind of facist.

I don’t know about the practical purposes to low-cut jeans, low-profile tires, or showing off bra straps, but there are some “appearance” trends that aren’t necessarily for your benefit.

Ok, so I admit that my tatoos are purely affectations  In my defense, however: when I started getting inked, it wasn’t so much of a mainstream trend. Most of the tatooed people I knew were sailors or bikers (I was a sailor).

To quote you, Omnivore:
"Drop the squabbles.
Agree to disagree and lets get on with the good thread. "

Ouch! That sure came back to bite you in the ass, didn’t it?:smack:

The Osbournes.

Based on the rave reviews in the papers and the boards, I would appear to be in a minority.

I agree beagledave that show sucks. Has anyone seen Crank Yankers on Comedy Central ? there’s another retarded show that’s supposed to be hilarious. Crap.

Murder 8y Num83rs
THIRT13N GHOSTS

Absurdly stretched alphanumeric “puns” in movie titles.

The antismoking trend and the TRUTH group (who exaggerate the truth and outright lie to get their point across).

The reluctance to make a safer cigarette (which they can but don’t).

The no smoking fanatics that banned it in public buildings and, in California, even out in some public areas.

Ya’ know, even as a non-smoker, I gotta agree with you, Omnivore. When businesses decided to start putting in non-smoking areas (their own decision, for the sake of attracting customers), that was great! No problem there. But it’s gotten freakin’ stupid.

As a matter of fact, I’ll take this one step further - I’m sick of the “trend” (maybe more than a trend, since it’s at least as old as the Inquisition, and probably much older) of trying to save people from themselves. There are some few laws I might be able to support that protect me from other people’s stupidity (drunk driving laws, for example), but quit trying to protect me from my own!

Absolutely.

Let’s see here …

Good looking people - hate’em, and they have no business dressing like good looking people.

Getting the shits - This. Has got. To go.

SUVs - just plain stupid.
slight hijack: I don’t know what people have against thongs. I’ve only ever seen one worn one single time by a real person and it didn’t bother me in the least.

I don’t know what’s wrong with baseball caps. They came in to fashion during the American Civil War and have been around ever since. Even when not at the “hight of popularity” they never went away.

Tattoos - so what? Around for thousands of years in thousands of different cultures. If it’s not on your body it’s not your problem.

You AREN’T supposed to bend the visor on a baseball cap? In what universe? I have never ever ever seen a hat with a flat visor that wasn’t on a store shelf. This is so unviersally accepted as the way to wear a baseball cap, that they SELL a piece of plastic to make the curve come out a certain way.

I have to agree with ElwoodCuse. Wearing a ball cap with a perfectly flat brim is like wearing a shirt with the cardboard and pins still in it or jeans with ironed creases. Comfortable clothes are not formalwear. When I relax I don’t want to look like my mommy dresses me.

What I do hate are over constructed, synthetic mesh “feed store” style caps. You know the kind with the high crown in front so the embrodered emblem stands up tall. Much prefer a nice cotton ball cap like the MLB shops sell. [Anti PC alert]Believe it or not that’s why I won’t wear my NRA ballcap evne to the range. :D[/APCA]
