Hiya…
Since I’m on tonight anyway… can someone who lives nearer there tell me what that pseudo-acronym Tribeca came from? I forget.

TriBeCa is the Triangle Below Canal St. in New York.
Here is the site of the Tribeca Organization, which is sort of like a Chamber of Commerce, I guess.

And SoHo is South of Housten Street, NoHo is North of Housten Street, and Uh-Oh is what we called the part of Hudson Street near the Holland Tunnel back in the '80’s.
Oh, and that’s HOW-sten Street, by the way.
Oh, excellent. Thanks, both of you. I’ve been whiling away the evening reading a long thread about “God, can you believe how unbelievably goddam dumb people are?” and I’ve been terrified that I’m going to find someone saying “Hey, there’s a guy on the other thread that doesn’t know what Tribeca stands for.”
Well, no longer.
I had heard of SoHo, but do you really say NoHo? That’s new to me.
My favorite one is DUMBO: Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.
Noho’s pretty new, it’s only been around for a couple of years as far as I can tell.
There also the recently coined NoLIta: North of Little Italy.
My personal favorite is the renaming of Morningside Heights to Upstate Manhattan.
