Tricky middelnederlands moment

Ok. I have a phrase here and I can’t make sense of a bit of it. It’s part of a prayer:

O lieue minkijke heere Ihesus ick dancke v wt dat binneste mijns harten, ende ick vermaen v den pijnlicsten val doen ghij metten [cruce] op ghericht waert. . .

The problem is the word “vermaen” here. The only suggestions I’m finding for it are something like “admonish” or “exhort” and that doesn’t really make sense here. Is there an old meaning for this word along the lines of “remind” or “commemorate”? Any suggestions?

Hmm, This old-Dutch isn’t my forte. I’d have thought admonish or something like that too, but it doesn’t make much sense to me either. The second line is a paralel construction to the first and you’d expect something like ‘wish’. I’d need more context to even understand fully what’s being said here, to be honest. 'Oh my sweet merciful lord Jesus I thank you for what that innermost of my heart, and I ‘hope’? for [that after?] the painfullest fall does thy immediately walk again.

I think you’re right at least in that there should be some other meaning out there …

Any chance that it is a passive mood, so that it might read “I am admonished/exhorted to…”?

Thanks, Arwin-- at least now I know I’m not crazy. Tomndebb-- yeah, I’d hoped for such a thing but there don’t seem to be be any passive indicators here, alas. I guess it’s time for quality time with a middelnederlands dictionary.

Here’s the whole clause, for jollies (it’s almost Easter week, and Mel Gibson got popular again for this sort of thing (I think he even included this little episode), so I should share. Not P.C.).

Mmmm! Ok, also, why is Jesus switching from “v” to “dij” mid-sentence?

It’s possible that this all is a handwriting error-- this scribe seems to have made a bunch of other omissions. Maybe it’s a typo/ misspelling. (The scribe, it seems , IS from Limburg. . . Hmm)
