Trigger Finger, can this be cured?

That is quite interesting, since I have both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoperosis. I hadn’t found this out, and nor has any of the ortho docs told me this over the years. Thanks so much for that info Sifisam.

How does that low dose chemo affect you? I’m on a lot of medications to begin with. And what type of Dr do I need to see for this. Its obviously not an Ortho Doc.

It’s a rheumatologist - have you not been referred to one? Over here (UK) you can’t even get a diagnosis of RA without seeing a rheumatologist.

Low-dose chemo varies in its effects, and builds up over time. Basically the same effects as chemo for cancer but much less pronounced. Fatigue, nausea, some hair loss, itching, brain fogginess, anaemia, and an impaired immune system. Some of these you also get just from having RA, of course. There are a couple of different medications but methotrexate is the main one. I’ve stopped taking it for a while because the effects had built up to such an extent that it was unbearable, but it wasn’t too bad at first and I think some people react better.

Bumping this thread because I’ve recently developed a trigger thumb. I’ll be seeing my doctor tomorrow.

What I can’t figure out is why it comes and goes throughout the day. It’s worst when I wake up in the morning, which I see from the web is common. But right now it’s non-existent. Nothing at all. Later on it will probably come back at a medium intensity. Last night I was reading from a clipboard that I was holding in the affected hand. I would have thought that sort of grasping would make it worse, but it went away for a while then too.

Can anyone tell me their experiences with activities and/or times of day that affected their trigger finger / thumb?

I’ve recently had a trigger thumb - I found the splint really useful, and after a couple of months of fairly dedicated use it has mostly resolved.

But it does take patience.

I have damage because of rheumatoid arthritis so it’s permanent. I can’t doa thumbs up with one thumb. I’ve had foot surgeries because of the RA, I just deal with the hands.
