Trimmed Down MCU Marathon before Avengers: Infinity War

Doubtful. Jane brought it to Earth, sure, but she had to go through some extra-dimensional portal to get to where it was.

Turns out I will **not **be seeing Infinity War opening weekend: it’s too late to get tix for Saturday, and I can’t go on Sunday. I’m a little bummed, but it gives me more time to try to see Black Panther.

I’m catching up on Thor this weekend: I watched The Dark World yesterday, and will watch Ragnarok today.

That will just leave Spider-Man: Homecoming. It isn’t available to rent from iTunes yet, and I’m not willing to buy it, so that one’s gonna have to wait.

Chronos:

Odin’s father locked it away, presumably on Asgard, until some sort of cosmic dimensional convergence event created random portals, which led to Jane Foster getting it inside her on Earth.

I found it in a RedBox. It’s fun, doubt it’ll impact Infy-Wars, but it’s good to get to know the newer, younger, funner Spider-Man.

As the guy who wrote the OP, I actually agree with you.
I think my thoughts were that it’s where we first meet Mantis and see Nebula become an ally. But that’s something I can remember well enough. Hell, I didn’t include the Ant-Man movie on my list but it’s not like I see him show up in Civil War and think, “Whoah! Who’s that guy!?”

My thoughts about how to trim the marathon are all about what through lines and character arcs I want to allow myself to sink into before the new movie. So, upon reflection, I think you’re right that GoG2 can be skipped.

Besides, I am not making good progress. My free time keeps evaporating. So, I definitely need to make some cuts!

I finished Ragnarok about an hour ago: now I’m even **more **eager to see Infinity War, because I have questions!!!

Thanks, but I haven’t had a disc player connected to my TV in years: between Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and iTunes, I haven’t needed one. While I *could *put a disc in my laptop and do the HDMI thing, I pretty much only watch what I can stream/download.

The consensus seems to be that Homecoming won’t matter much – if at all – to Infinity War, so I’m not pressed. But I’m looking forward to renting it whenever it’s finally available.

Hmmm… I don’t consider it necessary in a refresher marathon for someone who’s already seen it, but for someone who’s never seen it, I’m sure it’ll be harder to more fully appreciate this Peter Parker/Spider-man in Infinity War without having been introduced to him in his own movie first. His introduction in Civil War barely counts as an introduction.

I’m not saying you won’t be able to understand who he is or why he’s involved, but I think you’d better appreciate his participation in Infinity War if you had a nice 2 hour “getting to know you” session with the character beforehand.

Yeah, Homecoming is good, and Holland is the best and most believable Spider-Man, but all you need to know is his character and you’ve had 5 previous movies to do so. All that’s changed this time is that Tony Stark has taken an interest in him (and Aunt May gets progressively more attractive), but we learn that in Civil War anyway.

Yeah, I think the Civil War introduction to Spider-Man is fine if you’re looking to trim time. Homecoming is a fun and worthwhile movie but, you know, it’s Spider-Man. Swings from webs, strong, does whatever a spider can, etc. Especially if you’re not already familiar with the Marvel pantheon, you’re better off find out what the story and motivations behind Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy or Black Panther are than watching Spider-Man’s charming youthful incompetence for the -nth time.

Well, of course. And as soon as I can rent Homecoming, I will. But what I meant is that it seems as though nothing that happens in Infinity War is likely to leave me scratching my head if I haven’t seen Homecoming…unlike if I haven’t seen, say, Black Panther.

A couple days ago, Vulture published a guide to prepping for Infinity Wars. The article is here, but basically they say:
