The world record for the 400m is 43.03 seconds by Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa.
Personally, I preferred the old County Stadium, without the roof. Mom always told me that a baseball wasn’t an indoor toy.
No play … got ninja’s again!!

In 1931, the first organized baseball game was played in South Africa. In 1935, the South African Baseball Federation was founded. In 1938, the first South African All-Star team was formed, for the purpose of playing a team comprised of US Navy personnel from the USS Boise. The Navy team won, 18-3.
The Army - Navy game has been a traditional matchup of each branch’s football team. In 1893 an argument between an Army general and a Navy admiral almost resulted in a duel; the matches did not resume until 1898.
Polish engineer Tadeusz Kościuszko designed the fortifications at West Point. He was selected to do so by General George Washington, who considered West Point to be the most important strategic location in America. West Point remains the oldest continuously occupied regular army post in the United States.
Statues of American Revolutionary War hero Tadeusz Kościuszko stand in many American cities with substantial Polish populations, including Cleveland, Ohio. That statue, sculpted by Gaitano Trentanove at a cost of $9,000, was dedicated on May 8, 1905.
A statue of Tadeusz Kościuszko also stands at West Point. Kościuszko designed the defenses of the West Point garrison from 1778–1780 during the height of the Revolutionary War. He was a master tactician, although he had trouble convincing other war generals of the wisdom of holding the high ground.
At the Battle of Bennington during the American Revolution, the British held the high ground, but lost anyway as Continental troops attacked through woods to hit the troops from behind.
Despite its name, the battle did not take place in Bennington, VT, but rather in Hoosick Falls, NY. Bennington has a monument commemorating the battle, but it is not the battlefield, but rather at the location of the British objective, which they never got near.
Chester Bennington was a singer/songwriter who was the lead singer in several rock banks, including Linkin Park, Dead By Sunrise, and Stone Temple Pilots. He was born and raised in Phoenix, and began his music career there at age 17. Bennington struggled with substance abuse throughout his life, but managed to overcome both drug addiction and alcoholism. He died by suicide in 2017 at the age of 41.
Jack Swilling, a Confederate veteran of the Civil War, suggested the name “Phoenix” for the place he settled in the Arizona Territory, as it described a city born from the ruins of a former civilization (the Hohokam people).
River Phoenix was an American actor, known for his roles in films such as Running on Empty, My Own Private Idaho, Sneakers, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade; he died from a drug overdose at age 23.
River had four younger siblings: sisters Rain, Liberty, and Summer, and brother Joaquin, all of whom have been actors (though Liberty’s acting career was brief).
River Phoenix’s last film Dark Blood was left unfinished when he died.
At the time of his death on 22 January 2008, Heath Ledger had completed about half of the work for his final film role as Tony in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
When Heath Ledger died before filming of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was complete, his role was recast and played by Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law, embodying different transformations of the character in a dream world.
English actor Colin Farrell, born in 1938, has appeared in movies like A Bridge Too Far (1977) and Gandhi (1982). Since 2000 he’s been billed as “Col Farrell” rather than “Colin”, to avoid confusion with the Irish-born Hollywood leading man of that name - even though he had been a successful actor for ten years before the other Colin Farrell was even born.
Colin Powell was the first person of color to serve as national security advisor to the President, as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and as Secretary of State. He served in that last role during the first term of President George W. Bush.
In 2007 Powell donated the maximum allowed amount to John McCain’s campaign; following Barack Obama’s endorsement by Democrats in 2008, Powell announced he was supporting him. He went on to support the incumbent in the 2012 election.
In 2018, despite his criticism of Hillary Clinton’s email server scandal and actions surrounding the incident in Benghazi, Powell supported her against Trump, whom he despised. In 2020, he supported Biden.
Colin Powell’s 13 Rules of Leadership are

- It can be done.
- Be careful what you choose. You may get it.
- Don’t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.
- You can’t make someone else’s choices. You shouldn’t let someone else make yours.
- Check small things.
- Share credit.
- Remain calm. Be kind.
- Have a vision. Be demanding.
- Don’t take counsel of your fears or naysayers.
- Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.
(I’ve had them on my desk since 1992. Until I retired a year ago.)
Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. (19089-1972) was a pastor and politician who represented Harlem in the US House from 1945 through 1971. He was the first African American to be elected to Congress from New York. During his tenure, Powell became a powerful voice within the Democratic Party, at one time becoming the chairman of the Education and Labor Committee. He lost his seat in the election of 1970 and retired from politics, and he passed away in April of 1972 at the age of 63.
After his election in 1966, allegations of misconduct were made against Powell and the House of Representatives voted to exclude him. The matter eventually reached the Supreme Court, which held that a member of the House could only be ejected by a two-thirds vote, which had not occurred in this case.
