Trivia Dominoes II — Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia — continued! (Part 1)

Since 1986, Dark Horse Comics has emerged as the fourth largest comic publishing company in the United States of America. Dividing profits with artists and writers, as well as supporting artistic and creative rights in the comic book industry, Dark Horse Comics has become a strong proponent of publishing licensed material that often does not fit into mainstream media.

George Harrison’s 1974 album Dark Horse was recorded when exhaustion through overwork contributed to his contracting laryngitis and losing his voice, leading to it being referred to as “Dark Hoarse”.

President Gerald Ford, who took office after the Watergate-plagued Richard M. Nixon resigned on Aug. 9, 1974, was photographed toasting his own English muffins in the White House residence as a way of pushing back against the perceived “Imperial Presidency” approach of his predecessor.

Since the assassination of JFK, each successive president has been targeted for assassination at least once during their terms in office. Barack Obama was targeted at least six times; Bill Clinton was targeted five.

On 23 May 2023 an assassination attempt was made on Joe Biden when Sai Varshith Kandula, a 19-year-old man from St. Louis, drove a rented box truck into a barrier that separated the White House grounds from the public. He had a Nazi flag in the truck and when arrested, expressed admiration for the Third Reich and stated his intentions were to “kill the president” and “seize power”.

In a Dec. 2020 opinion column in The Wall Street Journal, Joseph Epstein, former editor of The American Scholar magazine, urged First Lady Jill Biden to stop using the title “Doctor” (she holds a doctorate in education). Public reaction was swift, with many accusing Epstein of elitism and misogyny. Chasten Buttigieg, husband of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, tweeted, "The author could’ve used fewer words to just say ‘ya know in my day we didn’t have to respect women.’ "

Swifts are in the same order as hummingbirds.

A hummingbird are the only bird that can fly backwards.

Squirrels cannot climb backwards, only forwards. They have to reverse their body orientation to change direction.

Freshwater, California is about 300 miles north of San Francisco. Freshwater used to be called Hardscrabble. Freshwater also used to be called Garfield.

(The San Francisco address was where I lived for a time, some years ago.)

While on your way to Freshwater, stop by and visit Bodega Bay. While being known as the town in The Birds (actually comprised of two places: Bodega and Bodega Bay), it also features an attraction known as The Hole in the Head. This is an abandoned site where PG&E planned to construct a nuclear power plant before discovering its location sits on the San Andreas Fault.

Andreas Hofer, a Tyrolean patriot and resistance fighter, was captured by Frech troops in 1810 and executed on Napoleon’s orders. 135 years later, in April 1945, his great-grandson and namesake Andreas Hofer, a member of the important resistance group against Nazi Germany led by the priest Heinrich Maier, was executed by the SS as Soviet troops advanced.

American actor Joaquin Phoenix plays the title role in the new Ridley Scott-directed historical epic Napoleon. Phoenix is now 49; the celebrated - and condemned - French emperor died on May 5, 1821 at age 51.

Joaquin Phoenix spent the first four years of his life with his family as members of The Children of God cult.

The Arizona Cardinals are the oldest professional gridiron football team in the U.S., having been founded on the south side of Chicago, as the Morgan Athletic Club, in 1898. By 1920, they were known as the Chicago Cardinals, and in that year, became a founding member of the NFL.

The team moved from Chicago to St. Louis in 1960, then relocated again, to Arizona, in 1988 – upon that relocation, the team was initially known as the Phoenix Cardinals, but rebranded themselves as the Arizona Cardinals in 1994.

According to oldest.org, the oldest club in Major League Baseball is the Atlanta Braves, founded in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings. The second-oldest, the Chicago Cubs, was also founded in 1871, as the Chicago White Stockings.

Weaselly, unpopular Major Frank Burns was played in the movie MASH by Robert Duvall, and in the TV show by Larry Linville. Linville eventually gave up the role, he said, out of boredom.

Despite playing an unlikable character (Maj. Burns), Linville was one of the most likable actors on the set of MASH. Garry Burghoff, who played lovable Corporal “Radar” O’Reilly, on the other hand, was the most unlikable and problematic actor on the set.

Larry Linville was a licensed pilot.
