Trivia Dominoes II — Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia — continued! (Part 1)

President Gerald Ford had a Golden Retriever named Liberty while he was in the White House.

Liberty Medical is a home-delivery service for medical supplies, particularly testing supplies for diabetics. The company is known for its long-running series of direct-response television ads, featuring the late actor (and diabetic) Wilford Brimley; his pronunciation of the word “diabetes” (“diabeetus”) has become an internet meme.

Among many other Hollywood roles, Wilford Brimley played a nuclear engineer (The China Syndrome), a top Justice Department official (Absence of Malice), a menacing security operative (The Firm) and a young-at-heart retiree (Cocoon).

Nor can we forget Brimley’s terrifying turn as the Postmaster General in Seinfeld.

The Postmaster General was long the de facto patronage chief of the US Government, due to the huge workforce necessary to carry, sort and deliver the mail. Jim Farley, FDR’s PG, was also a close political advisor to the President.

Postmaster General Confederate States of America John H. Reagan also served as Secretary of the Treasury concurrently during the end days of the CSA.

Postmaster General John Reagan was the only Confederate Cabinet secretary to serve throughout the entire Civil War.

Him and Secretary of the Navy Stephen Mallory. Reagan was the longest served over Mallory by 6 days.

Benjamin was in the Cabinet for the entire time, though, wasn’t he? First as AG, then War, and finally State.

Yes but not in the same office. I think the implication is serving in the same department but you are right in that he was in the cabinet in some capacity throughout the war.

The concept was created by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley in Illinois in 1905, though the first official Toastmasters club was founded by Smedley in 1924, in Santa Ana, California.

What trivium are you linking this to after we digressed?

“Postmaster” → “Toastmaster”

Jeff Ross, a comedian based in New York City, has been known as “Roastmaster General” of the NYC Friars Club since 2011. Ross was invited into the club in 1995.

Henry Ross Perot, a Texas native who founded the information technology giant Electronic Data Systems, ran for President in 1992 as an Independent. Appearing on the ballot in all 50 states, Perot won 18.9% of the popular vote, though he failed to win any electoral votes. He ran again in 1996 as a member of the Reform Party (which he founded), and this time garnered 8.4% of the popular vote.

The Reform Party of Canada was founded in 1987 as a western protest movement. The name was taken from the reformers of Lower Canada and Upper Canada in the 1840s, who won responsible government.

In January of 1940, the city of Reform, Alabama set the state record for the highest recorded snow depth at 22 inches.

(Almost 2 feet of snow in Alabama. Wow.)

At least seven United States Navy ships have been named Alabama, after the southern state of Alabama.

Alabama is an American country music band which began in Fort Payne, Alabama, in 1969. The band’s original name was Wildcountry, and they got their start by playing the bar circuit. After changing their name in 1977, they found success with a number of original singles. In the 80s, the band had 27 #1 hits and 7 platinum albums.

Alabama 3 is a British music group that recorded “Woke Up This Morning” which became The Sopranos theme song.
