Trivia Dominoes II — Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia — continued! (Part 1)

Pendragon is a historical-fantasy tabletop role-playing game, originally written by Greg Stafford. In the game, which is inspired by the various legends of King Arthur – in particular, Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur – the players’ characters are chivalric knights in Arthurian England.

The game was originally published in 1985, and is still in print today; game publisher Chaosium released the sixth edition of the game in 2023.

Excalibur was Irish actor Gabriel Byrne’s third movie. He played King Uther Pendragon, father of King Arthur, in the 1981 John Boorman sword-and-sorcery epic.

There are traditionally four Christian archangels, with different functions:

Michael - Justice

Raphael - healer and protector of travellers

Gabriel - God’s messenger

Uriel - prophecy and wisdom

In the 2005 movie Constantine Gabriel is depicted as a rogue angel who conspires with the son of Satan to unleash Hell on Earth.

Over the course of a long career, Gabriel Byrne has played a king (Excalibur), a crook (The Usual Suspects), a mobster (Miller’s Crossing), a musketeer (The Man in the Iron Mask), a psychiatrist (Hereditary) and a dad (The Last of the High Kings), among many other roles.

And Byrne has played a German immigrant teaching English in the US.

In early 1950, legal U.S. residency for some of the Project Paperclip specialists was effected through the U.S. consulate in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico; thus, German scientists legally entered the United States from Latin America.

Operation Paperclip, the clandestine effort to bring ex-Nazi scientists with useful knowledge to the U.S. after World War II, was discussed in the 1995 X-Files episode “Paper Clip.” The episode tied a fictional scientist, Dr. Victor Klemper, to the show’s mythos of a worldwide conspiracy backing the alien infiltration of human society.

American singer, songwriter, and actress Bree Sharp first gained fame in 1999, with the release of her first solo album, A Cheap and Evil Girl. The song’s first single, “David Duchovny” (written from the point-of-view of a woman who is obsessed with the X-Files star) became a cult hit.

An unofficial music video was created for the song, featuring the cast and crew of the X-Files, and a number of other celebrities.

“The Springfield Files”, season 8/ episode 10 of The Simpsons, introduces David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Sculley, respectively. Mulder’s FBI ID badge includes a Playgirl-esque photo of himself, perhaps a reference to the character’s sexual addiction.

Gillian Anderson is bidialectal. She can easily switch between American and British accents. Her American accent is Midwestern while her British accent is due to her childhood in London.

Gillian Anderson, right-handed and playing an FBI agent on The X-Files, routinely held her identification with the incorrect hand (as shown in that Simpsons image, as well). FBI agents are trained to hold their ID with their non-favored hand, so that their preferred hand is free to draw their weapon if the person to whom they’re speaking reacts violently.

David Duchovny is left-handed, so he’s doing it correctly.

Cartoonist and producer Matt Groening is the creator of three animated television series: The Simpsons, Futurama and Disenchanted. Combined, the three series account for 48 total seasons of television episodes to date (36 for The Simpsons, 9 for Futurama, and 3 for Disenchanted), with at least three additional seasons (two for Futurama and one for The Simpsons) currently planned and/or in production.

Marge Simpson has a large beehive because originally she was to be a rabbit from Matt Groening’s Life is Hell. Similarly, Krusty the Clown was intended to be an alter-ego of Homer Simpson hence their similarity in looks.

Nancy Cartwright first auditioned for the role of Lisa Simpson, but disliked the lack of personality (Lisa was listed simply as “middle child”). Yeardley Smith auditioned for the role of Bart, but was turned down for sounding too much like a girl.

Nitpick: it’s Disenchantment, not Disenchanted.

In play:

Nancy Cartwright has voiced Bart Simpson on The Tracey Ullmann Show and then The Simpsons since 1987. She was hired by Matt Groening on the spot after her audition. In 2000, she published her autobiography, My Life as a 10-Year-Old Boy.

NOT IN PLAY; @Elendil_s_Heir is the last play

Guys, four years ago in October 2020 I posted this

And then @kenobi_65 played this to follow mine.

The other day I visited the Cornish–Windsor Covered Bridge. It is in fantastic shape!

Two other small covered bridges are nearby.

The geographical DD coordinates for these bridges are (paste into map):
▲ 43.4733,-72.383, Cornish–Windsor Covered Bridge
▲ 43.4646, -72.3694, Dingleton Hill Covered Bridge, Cornish NH (“Covered Bridge No. 22”)
▲ 43.463, -72.3539, Kenyon Covered Bridge (Blacksmith Shop Covered Bridge), Cornish NH (“Covered Bridge No. 21”)

In play: The Denison Dam, also known as Lake Texoma Dam, is about 75 miles north of Dallas. It is in northeastern Texas and south central Oklahoma, on the Red River between the two states. When the dam was being built in the early 1940s, today’s town of Cartwright OK was established because a community of shelters for the workmen was erected. The Denison Dam takes its name from Denison TX, just downriver from it.

The Red River, which forms much of the border between the states of Oklahoma and Texas, is sometimes referred to as the Red River of the South. This is to differentiate it from another Red River, which is known as the Red River of the North. The north river forms most of the border between the states of Minnesota and North Dakota before continuing its northward flow into the Canadian province of Manitoba.

The Red River of the north is prone to frequent spring flooding, because it flows north. Ice break-up tends to occur earlier in Minnesota than in Manitoba, so broken ice flows north into Manitoba while the ice is still solid there. That causes ice jams, which in turn block the flood of runoff water, building up water levels to the point of flooding the banks.
