Trivia Dominoes II — Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia — continued!

Twenty-six musicians have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame multiple times (for their contributions with different groups, and/or as solo artists). Of the 26, three are women: Stevie Nicks (inducted for her role in Fleetwood Mac, and as a solo artist), Tina Turner (inducted as half of Ike and Tina Turner, and as a solo artist), and Carole King (inducted as a songwriter with Gerry Goffin, and as a solo artist).

Carole King married Gerry Goffin at 17 after she became pregnant. They dropped out of college and took day jobs but wrote songs in the evenings. After writing “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” for the Shirelles, they quit their day jobs.

Some of the other hits they wrote include “The Loco-Motion,” “One Fine Day,” “Up on the Roof,” “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”

King Carol I of Romania was born Prince Karl Eitel Friedrich Zephyrinus Ludwig of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. He had never heard of Romania until Napoleon III, a distant cousin, recommended him as a successor to Alexander Ion Cuza, who had been deposed by the Romanian nobility.

Karl, a 27 year old officer in the Prussian army, accepted his new position, changed his name to the Romanian form Carol, learned the language and ruled the country for 48 years, establishing a dynasty.

King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886) commissioned the Neuschwanstein Castle above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria. Construction began in 1869 and it was never finished.

Bavaria, now part of the Federal Republic of Germany, is officially known as the Free State of Bavaria. Its colors, like those of Case Western Reserve University and the University of North Carolina, are light blue and white.

The first Nobel laureate for physics, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (1845-1923), made his home in Munich, Bavaria. Röntgen is most famous for discovering x-rays.

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, more commonly known as BMW, is a manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles, headquartered in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. The company’s logo incorporates the light blue and white colors of the Bavarian flag.

In addition to automobiles and motorcycles under the BMW marque, the company also owns the Mini and Rolls-Royce automobile brands.

BMW also stands for ‘break my wallet’.

Or not.

Perhaps.

OK, not a play.

In That’s Me in the Middle, Vol. 2 of The Bandy Papers, Bartholomew Bandy of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in the Great War, obtains (by means best not published) a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, in which he tools around the Western Front, on one occasion posing as a general officer.

All Quiet on the Western Front is a 1929 novel written by Erich Maria Remarque, a German veteran of World War I. The book describes the physical and mental stress felt by the German soldiers during the war, and the struggle to fit back into civilian life after the war.

The book and its sequel, The Road Back, were banned by the Nazi party.

The "Top"banned/challenged book from 2000-2009 is the entire Harry Potter series.

Inspector Harry Callahan, a homicide inspector with the San Francisco Police Department, was born in 1928. He is now 93 years old. He carries the Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver with a 6” barrel in .44 magnum. That gun is 12” long and weighs close to 3 lbs. At the time of its introduction in 1955 the Model 29 was the most powerful production handgun, although it was later overtaken by handguns chambered for the even larger .454 Casull and .50 Action Express cartridges. S&W discontinued the basic Model 29 in the 1990s.

A 4” barrel version is available for sale for $1,100 from Smith, https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/model-29.

I don’t think we know for sure that SFPD Insp. Harry Callahan is still alive, let alone 93. However, Clint Eastwood, who played him, is now 91. The actor, director, producer, composer and former mayor of Carmel, Calif. will turn 92 on May 31.

Clint Eastwood has been nominated twice for Best Actor, but failed to win either time. He has also been nominated for Best Director four times, winning twice. Movies that he directed and/or produced have been nominated for Best Picture five times, also winning twice.

Clint Eastwood has been married twice, as well as having had two long-term romantic partners, and numerous affairs. He has fathered at least eight children (including actors Kyle, Alison, Scott, and Francesca), but has historically been unwilling to divulge the exact number of his offspring.

A Republican National Convention senior staffer was so upset and frustrated by Clint Eastwood’s meandering, Prime Time, trying-to-be-funny talk to an empty chair (representing President Barack Obama), that he ran to the bathroom and threw up, according to Double Down: Game Change 2012 by political journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin.

After 9 accusations of sexual impropriety, disgraced journalist Mark Halperin attempted to stage multiple comebacks. He is currently a host on the ultra right wing Newsmax network and was hired as a consultant for the nonpartisan “No Labels” political action group.

Generally defined, sexual assault is unwanted sexual contact. A United Nations report compiled from 65 countries determined that there are 250,000 rapes or attempted rapes annually. Another study found that approximately 20% of women in their lifetime have been victims of rape or attempted rape.

The Palace of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland was originally built for the League of Nations, but later ceded to its successor organization, the United Nations. Thousands of international meetings are held there annually.

The fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons was developed in the early 1970s by Gary Gygax (a wargamer and insurance underwriter from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin) and Dave Arneson (a wargamer from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota). The first published edition of the Dungeons & Dragons rules was released by Tactical Studies Rules (later known as TSR) in 1974.
