Trivia Dominoes III — Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

Per Wiki, “The use of a franking privilege is not absolute but is generally limited to official business, constituent bulk mails, and other uses as prescribed by law, such as the ‘Congressional Frank’ afforded to Members of Congress in the United States. This is not ‘free’ franking, however, as each member is appropriated a budgeted amount to compensate the [U.S. Postal Service] for [delivering] the mail.”

NFL tight end John Frank won two Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers, for the 1984 season in Super Bowl XIX and for the 1988 season in Super Bowl XXIII. He then went to medical school and earned his M.D. from Ohio State in 1992. He is an otolaryngologist practicing in New York City and Columbus Ohio.

Super Bowl XIX became the first Super Bowl in which the starting quarterbacks, Joe Montana of the San Francisco 49ers and Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins, each threw for over 300 yards. In addition, the two teams combined for 851 total offensive yards, which at that time was a Super Bowl record.

The Miami Dolphins were the first team to play in three consecutive Super Bowls. They lost in VI, then won in VII and VIII.

And those, BTW, were the first three Super Bowls I ever watched.

The 1963 film Flipper, about a boy who befriends a wild dolphin, was based on a story by Ricou Browning (who played the Creature from the Black Lagoon when it swam) and Jack Cowden.

Willie “Flipper” Anderson was an American football wide receiver, who played in college for UCLA, then for several NFL teams, primarily the Los Angeles Rams.

While he was with the Rams, in a 1989 game against the New Orleans Saints, Anderson set the NFL record for most receiving yards in a game, with a total of 336 yards on 15 catches, a record which has yet to be broken.

The original Dolphin, Flipper, for the 1963 movie was a female named Mitsy, and was owned by an older couple in Little Torch Key, FL (near Big Pine Key). Mitsy performed all the tricks in the original movie. It took 5 different dolphins to “replace” her in the second movie.

Several of Robert Heinlein’s sf novels, including Starman Jones and Time for the Stars, feature “torch ships” - large, spherical spacecraft powered by nuclear fusion and capable of near-lightspeed velocities.

King Robert the Bruce of Scotland was said to have been encouraged by the persistence of a spider, in building its web, to continue the Scottish fight against the English after several set-backs.

Cars that are spiders, or spyders, are sporty roadsters that are open top cars: either convertibles or cabriolets or targa tops. They typically are small and have only 2 seats. The term spider or spyder came from before the era of the automobile when some horse-drawn phaetons of the 1800s had small bodies and large wooden wheels with thin spokes. They were nicknamed “spiders” because of their appearance. That nickname was transferred to sports cars of the 1900s.

The Ferrari 328 GTS is the spyder version of the Ferrari 328 GTB berlinetta, or coupé.

The term “Braveheart” actually refers to the heart of Robert the Bruce. Robert had requested that, after his death, his heart be taken on a tour of the Holy Land. His heart was embalmed and placed in a metal urn that was borne by Sir James Douglas. However, Douglas and his knights were called to Spain to fight the Moors. There they were attacked and Douglas was killed, but not before he threw the urm at the attackers and shouted, “Lead on brave heart, I’ll follow thee.”

Not in play: did you not see @Bullitt 's post, which was after the one about Robert the Bruce?

No, I did not. Must have posted while I was composing. Oh well.

We call that a ninja! You were ninja’d!

(Trying to tie the previous posts together. Best I could do!)

The heart of a spider is located on the front dorsal side of the abdomen in a cavity known as the pericardial sinus. Depending on the size and energy level of the spider, the heartbeat can range anywhere from 9 to 125 beats per minute.

In the Sweet Valley High series, created by Francine Pascal, identical twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield share a Fiat Spider.

A subtle FYI here… It’s been common practice in this game that when one has been ninja’d, s/he either revises their play to make a valid connection, or withdraws the post.

Thank you to @Railer13 for making a connection.

Designed by the Italian carrozzeria Pininfarina, the Fiat 124 Sport Spider was first released in 1966. Beginning in 1979, Fiat marketed the car as the Spider 2000.

Today’s current Fiat 124 Spider, first released in 2016, is a joint venture with Mazda that shares its platform, mechanicals, interior and top mechanism with the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

The name of the “spider cars” comes from a specific type of horse-drawn carriage used in the 1800s, that was called “spider” because of the contrast between its large wheels and its small body that made it look like the eight-legged insect.

Spiders are not insects. Spiders belong to the class Arachnida, which also includes scorpions ticks, and mites as well, while insects belong to the class Insecta. One of the easiest ways to determine the difference is in the body construction … an insect’s body has three distinct segments – the head, the thorax, and the abdomen.
