Shia Labeouf wanted to live stream “He will not divide us” for the duration of Trump’s presidency. First, the phrase was painted on a white wall outside of a museum in NYC. It quickly became a center of pro Trump protesters and general trolls. Eventually, one walked in front of the camera and Shia was arrested after he assaulted the troll. After that incident he moved the camera to Albuquerque. Same thing happens. Protesters and trolls come, the camera is vandalized, and eventually Shia decided to move it again.
For the third location, he decided to fly a white flag with “He will not divide us” in an undisclosed location. The only things in the frame were the flag, half the flag pole, and the sky. 4Chan decides that they are going to track down the flag, because that’s the type of stuff they do.
Based on the sunrise/sunset they were able to determine the longitude. From the movement of the stars they were able to determine that the camera was pointed north. Shia was tagged in a picture in a local diner in Tennessee which helped them narrow down the search. With that information, they watched for planes in the sky and used known flight paths to triangulate the location of the flag. When they had a general location a 4Channer drove around honking his horn until they heard the honking on the live stream. That gave them an exact location and two days after Shia put up a flag in a random spot it was taken down and replaced with a trump hat.
Shia probably doesn’t have the time but you could have an awful lot of fun trolling the trollers with this. Stuff around with a mix of live and pre-recorded footage to alter the sunset times. Alter Shia’s metadata so that he seems to be places he’s not. Put the flag somewhere with false clues that make it seem to be somewhere expensive and difficult to get to, but actually have it somewhere else. Watch 4Chan and wait till they are getting close, then switch to pre-recorded footage and move the flag before they get there, and prank them at the former site of the flag.
Supposedly 4chan has helped the Russian military locate and strike ISIS training camps based on photos and videos. I don’t know if anyone has confirmed these stories.
More likely that Russian forces were already aware of the base and 4chan “exposing” it to them, and the Internet, forced their hand to destroy it before it relocated.
I don’t get it. If he’s putting it in secret undisclosed locations anyway, then why not just point a web cam at the wall of his laundry room and write “He Will Not Divide Us” there?
Meh. That’s pretty trivial spherical trigonometry and some basic astronomy. If LaBeouf were clever he’d get a legitimate-appearing CGI of this flag on Titan or Enceladus, forcing Trump boosters to back a Saturn moons lander, or better yet, Triton and get a dedicated Neptune system mission.
Not impressed. I’ve done better work on a weekend of drunken on a remote beach with a copy of SMAD and an old slide rule.
I suspect showing the tenacity if these guys is the point.
As for why, these guys believe in the Big Joke. Everythinng is meaningless, so just have fun. We are powerless to actually change anything, so don’t try.
That’s why they supported Trump. Pissi g people off is funny, and he also happens to be a troll himself. None of it matters. We’re all being controlled bymoniee interests or some shadowy conspiracy anyways.
Paintball sniper(s). Tripwires/motion sensors around the perimeter which switch the camera feed to show where the troll is while they get peppered with paintballs then hauled off for trespassing.
