Troops sent to Los Angeles-Housing

You might imagine it but they’re here, they haven’t take over anywhere, and there aren’t any large parks in the area they’re defending. They’re not commuting in from elsewhere to man the lines, they’re staying inside their perimeter.

Sure…because apparently someone forgot the tents and Port-a-Potties and canteen (to mention a few things). Better to sleep on a floor in a federal building with toilets than outside in the dirt in a park.

I’m sure that is true, but those are basically the only choices unless they’re going to be commuting from Pomona.

Take a look at a satellite view of Los Angeles and find me a large, flat open space that isn’t labeled “Forest Lawn” suitable for a large encampment of several thousand people.

Griffith park

Dodger Stadium is really close. Surely Donnie knows the the owner of the Dodgers.

This place?

Los Angeles State Historic Park:

Lake Hollywood Park:

@Beckdawrek mentioned Griffith Park.

I bet there are more. The places need not be at the hotspot. Just close(ish).

The Dodgers organization could kiss a generation of fans goodbye if they open up for this. Plus it’s, you know, baseball season.

Anyway, even if nearby (and it’s not that close) it’s still outside the perimeter being protected so not where the soldiers want to be, assuming they want to be here at all.

Whether or not it matters, I dunno. But the city and state are not looking to facilitate this operation by providing encampments. The soldiers have to stay at federal facilities.

This is also part of Griffith:

Fer sure. I am just saying if they took a park not sure how the city could stop it. Sure they might sue but this mess will be long over before a court case settles anything.

I can see the satellite map but can’t exactly tell elevations.

If you live there, you’ll know more.

Google actually says they’re being housed in San Pedro. Not sure if that reliable info. But it’s out there.

That’s not what the local news is showing, but maybe eventually? That’s a long inconvenient slog. I hope it’s a giant hassle logistically.

I suspect the guys think they’d rather be farther away.
Well, some anyway.

There’s an ample supply of amphibious assault ships in San Diego that could steam up to San Pedro and accommodate thousands of troops. They even have soft serve ice cream machines that, unlike McDonald’s, are operational

I hadn’t even thought about them being boarded on ships. It would make sense.

I delivered data there back in the '80s. There’s not really a lot of room for tents.

There are maybe five flat acres in that park that would be suitable for encampment without razing and grading the entire park.

No, it’s obviously not. It is clearly to the west and south of the Hollywood sign which would put it somewhere around the Hollywood Reservoir, probably Lake Hollywood Park which is about three acres of flat land., which is obviously not enough land to bivouac even a small fraction of National Guardsman, never mind the difficulty of convoying up and down there given the dearth of parking.

Sorry. I do not live in LA. That came up in a Google Image search for LA Parks and was noted as Griffith.

In the meantime, I saw on another site that many of them are from the base in Twenty-Nine Palms, about 150 miles away. I guess that could be doable, with buses.

That’s 80 square feet per person (assuming 2700 people). Seems like more than enough, even including space for Port-a-Potties, pathways, etc. A 2-person tent is around 6x6 feet. Bump that up to 8x10 feet to give them a bit of space and you’re still only at 40 square feet per person.
