Troubleshoot My Hyperlink Error!

I put hyeprlinks into an Excel spreadsheet which contains a list of documents on my hard drive. Ideally, I can call-up (launch) a document by using the hyperlink with the embedded path to the document. It’s worked fine except I found one bad link.

Although the file is nested within many sub-directories, the path and filename are both correct. Yet, the PC sends me an error claiming it cannot find the file. When I click “OK” (the only option to click on), another box pops up claiming the file may have a virus, and do I wish to continue? When I click “yes”, the mouse pointer changes to an hourglass telling me to wait, but nothing seems to be happening.

Could the path be too long? Could it simply be that my file name be too long at 60+ characters? (What’s the limit, anyhow?) - Jinx

It seems if I shorten the name, the link will work. I WAG it is due to the total number of characters creating a long path that caused the problem. I shortened the name and it works fine.

What a pain! (I need long file names for these files that are all very similar.)
