Truckers working for the law

Someone was trying to tell me that semi-drivers can make upwards of a $100 for reporting drivers who they see either drinking or smoking weed to the police.

Any truth at all to this?

I guess it kind of makes sense, but it also sounds like a scare-tactic.

Trying to talk you out of hotboxing on the interstate, eh?

I always see cop cars with the “1-800-GRAB-DUI” stickers. They might offer some sort of reward for information.

I don’t have an answer, but I do have more questions. If the OP is correct, how do the logistics work? How would a truck driver receive a reward? Give his name and license plate number to the police over the air? Do they wait for a conviction before collecting a reward? If so, wouldn’t they have to give a lot more information than their plate numbers- over public airwaves? Or do they have to stop their truck and wait for a policeman to show up personally? Anyone?

If it’s true, I’d have say that it’s a big load of bullshit.
Just what we need, a bunch of vigilante Crime Stoppers out reporting people who look suspicious.
