Trucks & Trains

I have a bunch of stuff that needs to go from The East Coast to The West Coast. In terms of fuel consumed, which is more efficient: Trucks or trains? Which is more efficient in terms of time?

IIRC trains are more efficent but only for heavy stuff in bulk. Trucks are faster especially since the route they take can be adjusted to fit the destination and no delays in transferring cargo to and from trucks for final delivery.

How much stuff are we talking about?

Some moving companies are good for this kind of stuff.

Trains, well freight trains are far more efficient in terms of energy used per mile, and pretty darn close to ocean travel which is the most efficient way to move freight (IIRC trucks are about 10x less efficient then trains.

It terms of time (time/mile) a jet would win hands down.

Some of the above would depend on routing, and it’s even possiable that if you ship by truck, that trailer may be loaded onto a train for part of the trip.
