Are the claims in this internet flash cartoon accurate?
The math seems accurate enough, but Moore-onically, don’t tell the whole story. The amount spent by the states on the various education and social programs listed isn’t included. For education alone, that adds another 373 billion dollars to the pot. Not shabby.
Just another ‘Slash defense spending/raise social program spending’ sales pitch. Granted, the quality of the flash movie itself was pretty good, but nothing new there.
Here’s another link…the one in the OP had too many slashes when I clicked on it.
I’ll agree with Brutus’s assessment of the facts. Although, I’m not sure about one thing. Should Iraq still be consider an “axis of evil” country? The cartoon with the copyright date of 2003 sure had it marked.
I’m a moderatly left-ish kinda guy, and I don’t buy it. I specifically take issue with the simplistic idea that by merely re- allocating tons of money, we can feed all the world’s children. My understanding is that lack of money (or food) is not the cause of world hunger. I believe (no cite to hand, sorry) that there’s plenty of food to feed everyone, but getting food to people is hampered by lack of infrastructure (which could be fixed with more funds, I suppose), bad agricultural practices, governmental corruption, and the use of food as a weapon by the numerous dick-weasels liberally sprinkled over the planet. World hunger is not a money problem, it’s a people problem
Their heart’s in the right place, but they need to do a little more homework.
The terrorists are very efficient in their spending in support of operations. Theirs is in effect a new kind of guerilla warfare. Countermeaseures have to be extensive and expensive as well hence the difference in bdgets. Perhaps the military budget is too large, and maybe not. Such a judgement has to be based on facts not available to the public.
