I mean, I guess? Like I said, it’s not really just about what we see on the news.
Maybe it’s because I’m in Texas but literally the MAGA folks who have no problem volubly espousing their views at work or in the neighborhood or HEB or wherever just aren’t talking about Kirk anymore. Not like they were literally just one month ago. Except in a vague “oh yeah, we’re supposed to still be angry about him” way.
He isn’t being used to stir jack shit anymore.
Sure, they’re keeping his name in the news but that’s just until the next thing pops up, whether that’s immigrants eating pets or pedophile rings operating out of pizza restaurant basements or whatever. Kirk was the flavor of the month (almost exactly a month), but he doesn’t stir their emotions anymore. It’s been too long, and the next dopamine hit will have to come from something else.
ETA: There’s a maxim about being prepared to fight the last war and not the next one. Kirk was the last war. There’s something new coming. We don’t know what it will be. Not even the right wing influencers know what it will be (they also don’t care - they just toss out a hundred things and seize on the ones that seem to gain traction). But focusing on what happened instead of what will come is a mistake.
And if anybody is getting hassled to do a Kirk birthday celebration, they can suggest making it a joint murder-victim birthday memorial for Kirk and the late George Floyd, born exactly 20 years previously on October 14, 1973.
It’s actually a bit more complicated than that. Satan killed Charlie, but God allowed it because Satan, with the help of Tucker Carlson, was in the process of turning Kirk against Isreal. Now why Satan would kill someone he was just about to use for his own evil ends is not clear, but ours is not to question why.
The Turning Point podcast is still called the Charlie Kirk Show. I wonder how long substitute hosts are going to keep that up? I’m sure they are all in-fighting to grab that profitable position.
Are you sure? I hear the last guy, whatever his name was, came to a timely end. Shot dead literally as he was minimalizing the danger of gun violence. Brilliant comedic timing. Punchline right to the throat.
Nor is it scriptural. They conveniently forget about the New Testament story where the Pharisees accused Jesus of using the power of Satan to cast out devils. Jesus told them that Satan doesn’t roll that way… so that’s how we can know he’s from God.
They ALSO forget that in the end times, ALL nations will be against Israel and that’s what will finally bring about the return of the Lord. So if they really wanted to hasten his coming? They’d stir up MORE animosity against Israel rather than defend them. RWers really don’t understand the Book they claim to believe in…
(And there’s everyone’s Sunday School lesson for today! )
Agree that they will memorialize Kirk’s killing as a rallying cry for as long as they can possibly milk it.
Kirk himself? Anything he said, did or built? Even his dumb face? All of that stuff is fading by the day. Nothing he did is original or important or distinctive. He was a peddler of commodity hatred. He was the most popular simply because someone has to be the most popular, and the dice-roll landed on him, and a thousand other grifters are working hard to replace him. They’ll succeed, and they won’t even keep his name alive, because they’re a bunch of mendacious greedy fucks who believe nothing and respect nobody.
He’s exactly like Rush Limbaugh in that regard. He was perhaps the biggest early name, but nobody cares that he’s gone or recalls any particular thing he said or did. He entertained conservatives by insulting liberals, it’s an easy grift that rewards ape-like imitation and repetition, and it’s an easily replaceable position that someone’s always gunning to occupy.
I don’t. I remember a couple of bits that he did because they were new and shocking in 1994, but they’re tame compared to what’s out there now.
To be fair, the man was a good insult comic. However you may feel about the subject matter and choice of target, it’s a talent, and he was good at it. Bill Clinton deserved to be roasted to hell and back, and Limbaugh delivered. But it’s a fungible talent, and few of them are remembered in very much detail than “that guy could really insult people, just really good at being an asshole.” No particularly memorable bits, nothing inspirational, nothing worth imitating or preserving. Just another asshole off the assembly line of the asshole factory. One gets murked, ten more are ready to take his place.
My comment was intended more as “never heard it” than “I need proof”.
Though, as an aside, I find it telling that the worst hits of Limbaugh and his ilk are remembered more by his detractors than his supporters, which feeds back into my point that guys like that aren’t missed or remembered. They are simply tools for the machine. When they die, the machine squeezes whatever outrage it can from their detractors’ celebration of their demise, and when that’s done it forgets them and replaces them with someone else.
Interestingly you don’t see people commemorating Kirk with clips or quotes of what he said. It’s because none of it is memorable or inspirational. It’s all commoditized, mass-consumption hate, and the last thing his supporters want is for anyone to put that under a magnifying glass. In fact they’re trying to cancel people simply for sharing Kirk’s literal quotes. The man doesn’t matter; all they need is a mouthpiece who will spread hate for a paycheck, and those people are more common than hydrogen.
