Re: his children — it’s very emotional for adults to contemplate poor fatherless little ones, but honestly a 1.5 & 3 year old won’t really have memories of him. They’ll be fine (or at least, this won’t be the reason they’re not).
That’s not making any comment about him (vile) or his death (not a good thing), just to say that “those poor children!” is more about the speaker than the kids. It will certainly be rough on his other survivors.
I’ve never seen it, though I’ve had plenty of opportunity to. Not interested. I also declined to watch Daniel Pearl die, or any of those other gruesome videos and, for the life of me, I can’t understand why people seek that sort of shit out.
They’ll probably be better off growing up without a piece of shit for a dad.
And while I am sure there’s a small part of Trump that is quivering in anticipation right now, there might be another little whisper of doubt circling somewhere around his ears saying “maybe I shouldn’t pick a fight with people who can hit what they are aiming at.” Being Trump, he will of course ignore this but I hope he has a hard time sleeping for the rest of his life.
Conservative love fantasizing about violence. They want battles in the streets. Well, how’d that first battle go? Middle of Utah, where you think they’d smell a liberal from a mile away and somebody sniped Kirk as if they had been trained by Gny. Sgt. Hartmann himself. No manifesto. No shit talk. Just the sharp crack of a “freedom seed” breaking the sound barrier and making Kirk live up to his words about how people sometimes have to die so the Second Amendment can thrive. Well, someone got the message Charlie, just not in the way you were hoping.
Even with all I noted, I was not sure, until Snopes confirmed that he was one of the MAGAngelicals that want to turn the word “Empathy” into a sin. Just like they did with “woke”. DEI, CRT and many other progressive items.

Teaching that to the young is the real sinful part IMHO.
Just being speculative but, it’s a bit disconcerting that it doesn’t appear that we know who this shooter is, where they are, or what they look like. What if they are a professional who knows how to cover their tracks? Imagine if they had a list. If I was Ben Shapiro, I might call in sick tomorrow.
I had the misfortune to see the Pearl video all those years ago and it still comes back to me, and not in good ways. I never want to see anything like it, or this event, again. It’s sad that it is being fed up to people so easily these days.
And it happened right as he was JAQing off with a side order of whataboutism on mass shootings, too.

I bet he didn’t even know what hit him. Just collapsed, uncomprehending. The world went black, and his heart (such as it was) stopped beating before he could process it. A relatively humane death, all things considered.
I think the video, even if you didn’t watch it personally, took “joyous" off the table as an acceptable reaction. Feasting on irony seems to be the take *du jour*. And the song submissions filling up the r/Music subreddit create a telling playlist.
If I were Ben Shapiro, I’d call in sick everyday until I got the fascist out of my system.
It is certainly unsettling that we know nothing.
The possibility of a list could generate feelings of unpredictable vulnerability among the elite.
I wonder how much upheaval this will bring for all of us.
I am curious as to what details will come out regarding things like caliber. While I’m of the opinion that any seasoned deer or elk hunter (and there are plenty in Utah, assuming he was localish) could make such a shot, it really does seem like the most “pro” attempt we’ve seen in a while. Good position, single shot, in an area likely to be fatal even if the bullet misses some. It could get real ugly if people who actually know what they’re doing are willing to start murdering from sniping positions and actually using the right equipment.
Anecdote: Ice skater Ekaterine Gordeeva, whose husband collapsed and died when he was in his late 20s and their daughter was 3 years old, said that his death affected their daughter much more as a teenager than it did at the time. I’ve seen similar things from other people whom I knew personally.
If it was a professional, the motive for this assassination is almost certainly distraction.

It was just the gruesomeness of it being so public and awful ( I did not view it) and the babies with no dad.
It got to me.
No thoughts and prayers for Charlie, he didn’t believe in empathy. I do feel bad for the kids, but maybe now they’ll be able to believe in it.
Hypocrisy is certainly part of the dynamic of how reprehensible assholes like this raise their children. But would it surprise you to learn that children frequently grow up instilled with the evil values, prejudices, and myopic shortcomings of their parents? For example, one Donald J Trump.
To be clear, no one here is expressing happiness that this piece of shit is dead, or that advocating violence is a way forward for America. We’ll leave that to the followers of Kirk himself and like-minded fascists and gun nuts who advocate exactly that. But there’s nothing immoral about an objective analysis of the consequences, both good and bad.
In all sincerity, good luck in the coming days, weeks and months America. I fear you’re going to need it.
This is in The BBQ Pit, right? Great. Kind of makes me want to go out and buy a US flag to puprosely not fly it at half staff.
I woke up this morning and right after breakfast, I saw Parker from “Parker Get a Job” talking about it. He was pretty shaken up. That’s the first I heard about it. Just about an hour ago, I was scrolling through my news feed on one of the Chinese apps and I didn’t know what it was until the shot. That was approximately one second into it. One should not that posting such graphic content happens to be illegal here.
Over lunch, I heard a few people, mostly Republicans, talking about how the political rhetoric needs to tone down becuase of how dangerous it is. They should be calling out their idol on that.
Some Democrats were also discussing how horrible this is. Yes, I’m sorry he got shot to death. I’m not sorry he’s unable to continue his antics now.
