Trump ally and conservative pundit Charlie Kirk shot at Utah event [now reported deceased, same date 10SEP2025]

Kirk is already being called a martyr by several MAGA conservative Christians with comparisons to MLK and Jesus. (gift link). Many of them feel it is emblematic of how their faith is under attack by liberals.

Jesse Watters on FOX News is one of several MAGA commentators calling for vengeance.

We’re sick, we’re sad, we’re angry, and we’re resolute, and we’re going to avenge Charlie’s death in the way Charlie would want it to be avenged.

Right wing commentators are stating evangelicals are now at war with the left and calling for the arrest of every Democrat and the banning of the party among other things.

Time will tell how serious the freakout on the right will be but I suspect it will get uglier before it is all over.

From the above linked article:

Ruth Braunstein, an associate professor of sociology at Johns Hopkins University who studies political violence and polarization, said she was concerned that the slaying of someone she described as a “pivotal figure” on the American right could mobilize groups that have been waiting for just such a catalyst.

“The right, she said, “has well-organized and trained groups, including militia organizations, that are basically waiting for a moment to be called into action in defense of what they view as the nation.”

Man, he didn’t care whose toes he stepped on:

Hey, I know a guy who can tell – at sight – a Mauser rifle from a javelin.

The case length is ~2.5in long. You could get something on there, but not a manifesto.

I mean, yeah, you could get “FASCISTS SUCK” on there. Maybe “TRANS LIVES MATTER” if you write small enough.

You could maybe write something on the casing, but it’d be pointless to do so on the bullet itself. Again, the report is a Mauser .30-06, and the case length for a .30-06 is about 2.5 inches.

Writing on bullets (and magazines and the weapons themselves) has, unfortunately, become very common at mass shootings and assassinations nowadays. Did Luigi popularize this? His Deny Delay (whatever the third D word was) bullets is the first case I remember but I feel like it was happening before this too?

I expect we’ll learn more about that. The key claim is:

The older-model .30 caliber hunting rifle was discovered in the woods near the scene of Wednesday’s shooting at Utah Valley University, wrapped in a towel with a spent cartridge still in the chamber, the sources said. There were also three unspent rounds in the magazine, all with wording on them.

So, four cartridges?

It doesn’t take very many words to express a political viewpoint.

For example:

(Bonus quatloos if you remember this.)

That story’s getting a certain amount of airing at the moment, for reasons.

The “transgender ideology” rumors will be shouted from the rooftops, and any corrections will be whispered.

He stole the idea from Private Baldrick.

This shit is making me literally nauseated. And very worried about my son.

He was half right when it comes to empathy. It is not owed…to oppressors. Please do not pretend that “civility” in the face of fascism makes you morally superior.

Agree. Celebrating the death of an evildoer from natural causes is different from celebrating a political assassination. I hope Trump dies of natural causes, I hope it’s soon, and I will be metaphorically pissing on his grave when he goes.

He was no better than a nazi. In some ways, I forgive the pre-1933 nazis more than I do the American variety, even if the American nazis are not explicitly advocating for things as bad as the German nazis did. Why? Because the German nazis at that point didn’t have the example of the Holocaust and other modern genocides, whereas the American nazis do. They know where their hate will ultimately lead, and they do what they do anyway. There is no question in my mind that Kirk would gladly have gone along with the slaughter of millions in service of his fascist agenda had he had the chance. He was absolutely that cold-hearted and evil.

And to the fascists and nazis in politics and the media who say that calling you “fascists” and “nazis” foments violence–fuck you! You are fascists and nazis, and your being so is the root cause of much of the violence happening in the country, not our calling you out on it.

He got rid of his shoes if he ever saw In Cold Blood.

An MSNBC analyst was fired for his comments on the assassination.

“He’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups,” the analyst said during the network’s breaking coverage. "And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that is the environment we are in.

“You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place. And that’s the unfortunate environment we are in,” he added.

Dowd also speculated: “We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration. We have no idea. We don’t know any of the full details of this.”

An on-sale brand bought from some big-box store?

The 30.06 has been Americas deer rifle since… the 40s? A single shot no clip/ no magazine/ no internal storage/ might be a ‘first rifle’ given to a kid or maybe out grown by a hunter? No one would think much about it; it might even be sold at / picked up from an estate sale.

All rifles are dangerous, but this seems to be something that would have been produced in the millions between then and now and would seem to be an incredibly low profile sale (or hand-me-down).

I can’t explain it further beyond that… but something about this smells… and it isn’t Charlie Kirk’s rotting corpse.

Mausers don’t normally shoot 30-06
