Pretty sure it’s a play on words.
The only lesson from this mess is Charlie who? Who gives a fuck about this one unremarkable guy? Thousands of unremarkable guys get murdered ever year in America.
I’m sorry for your loss. Move on.
I am shocked and appalled at the number of people who don’t understand, or have never learned, 20th Century history. By default, I assume they don’t know who Horst Wessel was, and that they don’t know the difference between ‘Lied’ and ‘lied’.
I half expect to eventually see a (most likely self-published) tell-all book from his widow in the years to come.
He wasn’t Joe Random. He had a HUGE following and was very influential.
You may dislike his message but no one can deny he had a profound effect on American political dialogue for many years so his death is notable and far from “unremarkable.”
I’m sorry; there was nothing funny about that on any level.
I think if you asked “people in the know” it would be nearly universal that Charlie Kirk was the person who deserves the most credit for Trump’s re-election.
Dark humor to be sure. Not for everyone.
I think it is important because it really is not making light of any of it. It is exposing how messed up this all is in a clever way.
Read between the lines.
Well, there go Trump’s re-election chances in 2028…
Wall Street Journal retracts reporting that shell casings were inscribed with trans and anti-fascist phrases.
No link yet.
Oh, believe me, I got it.
That seemed like RW porn to me when it was first reported. Not surprised it’s being retracted.
I will fully admit I haven’t read every post in this thread, but I have been following the story.
With a high-powered bolt-action rifle (my guess is either a .270 or 30.06) from a prone supported position, assuming a half-way decent sighted-in scope, a shot into body mass at 200 yds is trivial for anyone with reasonable experience. It’s not a miracle shot. Frankly, my assumption is the shooter missed his target either high (aiming for center mass) or low (aiming for a head shot), he just did so in a way that a hunter would - not ON target, but close enough.
The Utah governor just noted at the press briefing that there is a ton of Russian and Chinese dis/misinformation on social media. Since Trump disbanded the task force that worked on combating that, I’m sure that’s making the job even harder. And I would imagine that a large part of the 7000 tips the FBI has gotten are disinformation meant to impede their work.
It should also be noted that the reporting on the rifle is pathetic. If it was a Mauser action, then it had an internal magazine. 5 rounds, probably. It is in no way a “single shot” rifle except to a particularly brainless reporter.
Almost certainly because he was firing from an elevated position, they have pics of the shooter on a nearby roof.
Unfortunately, in this current media environment, being “first” is all important and they know it. So they report it with some soft language that it is not certain and then retract later. I am hard pressed to think of a media site that doesn’t report news like this anymore.
Sucks, but there it is (and then add in so much AI to reporting and it snowballs).
I’m waiting for the ‘All pistols are Glocks, all rifles are Mausers.’ meme.
Out of morbid curiosity, is there any evidence that the shot happened moments after Kirk was asked about shootings? Or was it coincidence? (my guess is they cannot know till they catch the person and learn how it all played out…just seems weird timing if chance).
The dictionary needed an updated definition of serendipity perhaps?
