Representative Nancy Mace is going to introduce a House Resolution calling for Kirk’s body to lie in honor in the Capitol rotunda.
Thanks for that WSJ. Now should there be a sudden increase in the murder of trans people we can have a little talk about the ethics of inflammatory ‘’‘’‘journalism’‘’‘’.
Can you quote the relevant bits?
First paragraph (only four paragraphs long) you asked for: https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/charlie-kirk-shot/card/ammunition-in-kirk-shooting-engraved-with-transgender-antifascist-ideology-sources-pdymd1sXXMSlVRhpvR4b
An early bulletin circulated widely among law enforcement officials said investigators found ammunition engraved with expressions of “transgender and anti-fascist ideology” inside the rifle that authorities believe was used in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk. But some officials later Thursday cautioned against reaching conclusions based on the internal report.
I only saw that first paragraph. It does not really have any information; just ‘Investigators said this, which may or may not be accurate.’
RIGHT NOW watching video on CNN of the shooter after the shot moving across the roof, swinging himself down from the roof, resting his weight on his forearms briefly (that’s where they got the forearm prints?), dropping to the ground, running across grass to a parking area, and out of sight.
ETA: Other video of his escape from a different angle, farther away, and another of what could be him lying on the roof (very indistinct, hard to make out even on a high-def TV).
I get it but I can’t share more cuz Board rules. Fair use and copyright and all that. (I looked for a Gift Link but did not see it)
I think this article is not telling us much.
You can take my word for it that, in that particular article, there really is not a lot more info of note. Some details but nothing that tells us what we don’t already know.
Or not…up to you.
The State Department is now threatening the visa status of any foreigner “praising, rationalizing, or making fun of” Charlie Kirk’s death.
You know, it would have been nice if we’d gotten the same energy for Martin Luther King Jr. back in the 60s. But I guess only bigots get this sort of canonizing
Yes. The news clips I’ve seen, that stop the video but continue the audio at the moment the shot is heard, also captured what was being said by Kirk and someone in the audience. zthe subject was mass shootings, how many were being done by trans persons, then a question of how many total shootings, and a quip “Including gang shootings?” BANG. No way to tell if the shooter was hearing the amplified discussion being fed to the crowd, or if he’d be paying any attention to it as he sighted in.
With any sort of gun, though, couldn’t the shooter attach a small bag or something to catch the cartridge as it ejects? Of course, the bullet itself can have incriminating characteristics, too.
Yes, a brass catcher… but they’re kind of bulky, easy to catch on things, and get in the way - ESPECIALLY if you have a failure to feed or fire you need to clear.
Sure…I’ve seen that too.
But coincidence?
Otherwise, the shooter was waiting for a question to make a point. Which means he could hear it and, if 200 yards away, would the audio be clear (was it broadcasted/streamed in some fashion)? Which suggests an accomplice in the audience to ask the question (doubtless that person has been investigated) or just hoping for the question they wanted…if not…shoot at the end.
Truly guessing.
Brass catchers are a thing, but not exactly necessary if you only shoot one shot and leave the casing in the gun.
Didn’t they say it was a bolt action rifle? I am no expert but I don’t think the brass flies out of those rifles. The expended cartridge is easily caught by the shooter if they want to do that.
Not to mention if you are planning an assassination you might think about this issue (digging my hole deeper).
My .22 bolt action rifle retains the cartridge until you work the bolt. Then the spent cartridge pops out and another round feeds up from the clip into firing position.
It’s unusual for any magazine fed firearm to not eject on extraction.
So, yeah, the brass flies unless you put something over the ejection port.
Pulling the bolt back generally ejects the cartridge. It would actually be a pain in the ass to “catch it”.
I’m curious, for those that object to the single-shot characterization; what do you call a magazine-fed bolt action? I would still refer to it as a single-shot, as it has to be reset to a ready state before firing again; the magazine just makes it easier.
I think we have been told this is a bolt action rifle. Not magazine fed. So, the expended cartridge stays in the gun until the bolt is operated. And, since the shooter is operating the bolt, they can catch the expended shell.
