Trump ally and conservative pundit Charlie Kirk shot at Utah event [now reported deceased, same date 10SEP2025]

A Democratic leaning illegal immigrant would have been even better.

Yeah, I’m not sure it’s that he wanted the shooter to be a non-Utahn as he wanted it to be the right kind of shooter. It wouldn’t have looked good to be a white right-leaning Christian male from outside of Utah either.

That shooter was on the grassy knoll. :face_with_peeking_eye:

Okay, but was anyone in this thread not spending some time over the last two days hoping that the shooter was not any of those things? I sure as fuck was. I can’t really get angry at a guy on the other side of the aisle hoping for exactly the same thing.

Perhaps the shooter was taking a play from Charles Manson and wanted to start his version of Helter Skelter. Commiting a assassination in order to pin it on the group he wanted to take the blame. The markings on the bullets are the equivalent of writing PIGS on the wall in the victims blood at the Tate-Labianca crime scenes in an effort to mislead the police.

Why do you suspect the guy is mistaken? Why is it so fucking hard for liberals to believe that a liberal could perpetrate gun violence? Every other leftist I know is absolutely elated that Kirk got shot. Not to mention that half the liberals I know on the west coast moved here to escape families where everyone else was MAGA.

Of course it’s entirely possible the gunman could be liberal or leftist. It is not a far fetched notion.

Oh cool, did I make that claim?

I’m wondering why a radical leftist would leave a calling card that pointed to his team. Knowing that the fanatical right would only use it to justify vengeance.

Wouldn’t be better to leave them guessing? That is unless you wanted them taking revenge.

Every liberal you know??

How is it soooooo many murders go unsolved but when the government really wants to they can catch the bad guy in a day or two?

He turned himself in.

Really? Well, that changes things.

I thought his dad turned him in.

I thought his dad convinced him to turn himself in. In either case, he wasn’t caught.

The main part of it is that the lion’s share of “liberals” are aware how their/our position in the present environment, aware of how very much worse our standing would be if we started acting out. Most “liberals” are rational in ways that RWers on average are not, and are also a bit anxious when we see how crazy the RW are. Hence, most violence is simply not going to be “liberals” due to the rationality divide

Nah, I’ve thought this over, and actually… fuck you. Like ChatGPT never hallucinates a source? Are you for fucking real right now?

If ChatGPT said the world is round, I still wouldn’t fucking quote it as saying so. Again, it is not a reliable source, and you’re a fucking dumbass if you think it is. If it does cite a source, then the thing to do is go to the source, verify the source actually says what ChatGPT claims it does, and quote the actual source.

The Proud Boys played a critical part in carrying out the Jan. 6 attack, but the group is just one part of a trend of increased white supremacist and far-right violence. Top U.S. law enforcement officials say those extremist movements are the biggest domestic terrorism threat facing the country. Laura Barrón-López discussed the rise of far-right extremism with Kathleen Belew and Seamus Hughes.

Of course, that does not mean liberals do not own guns or that liberals will not shoot people they do not like.

I can when they’re looking to target me and mine because of it.

This argument is probably best for another thread but, to be sure, any cite you make here might be wrong. A peer reviewed paper is probably best but a link to a web site…it depends. Is the web site reliable. Do they have links to sources that validate what they are saying?

In short, AI is kind of a super search engine. Google on steroids. You can certainly dispute what the person is saying but I am not sure yelling “AI” means what was said is instantly worthless.

Refute the person with your own facts.

Sure, he could be. But I think this is one of those times where the general demographics of this board regarding age and interests is coming into play. I’m probably one of the youngest old timers here (holy hell, how has it been 23 years?), am fairly active in various scenes with younger Millennials and Zoomers, mostly know who all these people and references and memes are, and I’m still somewhat behind on some of it. That said, from what I do know of the culture, I still see someone closer to a groyper than someone on the left. The dude was doing the equivalent of shitposting with the reported messages and probably realized real fast once the trigger was pulled that he’d just done something that could never be undone and hadn’t really gotten to that point mentally in all his planning before that. Because if your time is spent on various corners of the internet talking and gaming and shitposting, it’s easy to talk a big game and make radical comments without ever doing more. At best his politics are probably a muddled mess of ideas.

Related to that and the current issue:

On January 4, 2021, Kirk announced in a tweet that Turning Point Action would be sending more than 80 buses to a January 6, 2021, Trump “Stop the Steal” rally near the White House in Washington, D.C, to protest the outcome of the election.[22][23] They sent seven buses with approximately 350 participants.[22] Turning Point Action also funneled money to several “Stop the Steal” rally speakers, including Kimberly Guilfoyle, but did not organize or take part in the march to the Capitol that erupted in violence.[24][25] Kirk later deleted the tweet[26] and said on his podcast that it was “bad judgment” and “not wise” to enter the Capitol but not necessarily insurrectionist.[27] A Turning Point Action spokesman later said the group condemns political violence.[23]
