OTOH, I have heard of several cases of kids escaping the homes and the church communities from religious extremists that sound a lot like guys fleeing North Korea. The celebrity angle makes it worse as there are more pressures for the kids to be perfect models of behavior.
In the possible case that they were not treated that way, I hope the kids are not pushed to preach more of the same ideology as their parents.

NBC is reporting that he’s dead. I think their source is the Orange Ape’s tweet.
This is just another reason why I’m sad that this is the timeline we live in.

I don’t know what to say. Political violence is always wrong. Guns are too easy to get. I hope the backlash isn’t too dreadful. Thoughts and prayers for his children.
Of course there are more thoughts to think and more things to say, but not today.
I despised the man, but I wish this had not happened. As noted by @griffin1977, he is likely to become a martyr to the cause among the young people who are fans of his propaganda. MAGAs will dine out on this for… well, forever.

Yeah. In addition to the political fallout, which i expect to be bad, i don’t want to live in the kind of country where people are randomly gunned down in public, for their political views or really for any reason.
Horrific tragedy especially for his young family. US politics is obviously in a dark place anyway but just about the one thing guaranteed to make it much worse is political violence…
Are you all assuming that the shooter is a lefty, or are you assuming it won’t matter for any blowback?
NY TImes reported he had just been asked a question about how many mass shootings had there been in the US.
The Right has already decided the shooter must be a lefty. Even if it turns out the shooter was a card-carrying member of the Republican party they’ll say they’ve been a lefty all along. So of course the Right will call for more oppression of anyone not them.
All they have to do to defuse the situation is insist that the killing wasn’t political in nature, rather a lover’s quarrel.
