Not to veer off too much (hopefully) into a gun control tangent, but I loved the memes I saw this week (and perhaps it was mentioned at some point in the last 1,180 comments here) that Democrat lawmakers should introduce the “Charlie Kirk Gun Control Bill” and make Republicans vote against it.
There hasn’t exactly been zero discussion. But mostly there was a recognition that the crowd taking advantage of this death for their own political gain have no interest in having that discussion and those that do want to have that discussion are currently being hushed.
For what it’s worth, there was a school shooting the same day that is still being mostly ignored.
As for inherited arms, sure, those will always be a problem but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be any attempt to do anything at all.
As for this board, there are already plenty of threads, and I’d rather not have the usual suspects derail yet another thread and keep them contained in those.
If Charlie Kirk were a ten year old school kid, the country would have forgotten about him already.

It seems what the right really wants is oppressed left to start shooting, so they can crack down and say “see! I told you so!” And when they don’t get that response, they double down on more oppression. Lose-lose.
Except - this isn’t 1936 Germany. The oppressed left isn’t 6 million, but more like 170 million, many of whom are armed. If the right gets their civil war, they may not like the results.
Actually, the father was concerned that the son was trained by him and he knew he was armed and “falling down”, just a bit more awareness of what he was thinking about Charlie Kirk, and the father could had reached for red flag laws to take away the son’s guns.
Of course, Utah is one state that has no red flag laws.

Years ago, TransUnion decided that I and a guy who lived about 30 miles away were the same person. So if you pulled either of our credit reports, you got all the other person’s information, loans, addresses, etc. and the names were listed as aliases.
Of course I discovered this when we pulled the credit report for a mortgage. “Mr Olds, why didn’t you list the second home and two car loans on the application?”
I was getting nowhere getting it resolved. I happened to be speaking to my cousin, who is a patent attorney, so not the sort that normally deals with this stuff. He said “Would you believe the head of in-house counsel at TransUnion is a friend of mine?”
Resolved in 48 hours.
However, to this day, any online search like the one listed above still lists all the information about the other guy under my name, in addition to the correct info.

At first I felt bad for CK’s children. Then I read that when he was asked the hypothetical case of his 10 year old daughter being raped, would he force her to deliver the rapist’s child. He said the child would be delivered. So fuck him, if he’s that kind of shithole father, the kids are better off without him. And since MAGA thinks that liberals are celebrating his death, I’ll defy them and not celebrate his passing, even though his death makes the world a better place.

I have only ever been able to google 1 - just ONE - other person with my name. She lives in England. So… “completely unrelated person” with my exact name is unlikely.
I attempted to contact their customer service department about the gross inaccuracies but got a form letter back that basically said they didn’t give a fuck about that, it was all drawn from public records, and if I didn’t like it I could go change those public records. So… yeah, they have a phone number for me I haven’t had as mine in over 30 years. I’m sure someone else has it by now and that person has some other wrong phone number. Meanwhile, the phone number I actually have had for 30 years they have as belonging to some dude in Utah. Which might explain why I’ve been getting his phone calls for the last 3-4 years! What the hell “public records” are they drawing this shit from? Basically, their database is bullshit.
My understanding is that Kirk’s wife is that kind of shithole of a mother. So really nothing has changed for the kids.
In my case, I know a lot of the incorrect information is credit reports. Anything that gets reported to a credit bureau, including typos and silly mistakes, is there forever.
I’ve checked my credit reports - they have accurate information on me.
I still suspect they’re conflating the records of different people.

I’d rather they push the “Charlie Kirk Free Speech Bill” to shore up the first amendment. Probably just as little chance of getting passed, but maybe a little more effective messaging to the people who aren’t stupid enough to be diehard MAGA, but who are still too stupid to realize they should be diehard anti-MAGA.
Just like the '25 inauguration, working-class supporters will flock to the funeral only to find their trip was in vain and they won’t be allowed in.
