Is it your opinion that saying empathy is a made-up new age term incompatible with being Christian? Did JC talk a lot about empathy a lot? I do not remember that. What is an appropriate level of empathy for a Christian in you estimation? Does everyone need to pass the Crane Christianity empathy litmus test or just Charlie Kirk?

My premise is that empathy is basic to the teachings of Jesus Christ therefore it is a necessary part of being a Christian.
What is yours?
Umm yeah, he kinda did. It was a big part of his preaching. But more to the point, he didn’t just talk about it; he instead reportedly displayed empathy as well—and his followers thought this was important enough to share.
I’m constantly reminded in recent years about Gandhi’s quote about Christians:

Sometimes I think so-called Christians focus solely on being personally “saved” and the rest of the world can go to hell.
I am an atheist, but I like to imagine that if there was a Heaven people would arrive and be asked by their god, “How many did you drive away from me?”. That would be the Heaven far too many “Christians” deserve.
Um… lessee… Healing the sick, “love one another”, making the fishes and wine aplenty, crying with those over the loss of Lazarus, etc… What Does the Bible Say About Empathy?
This is why I picked the full speech about wives and marriage. You focus in on the money quote calling it a joke, but the rest about rejecting feminism, quitting a career (now she’s worth 100x what Travis is worth) and focusing on children… How can you dismiss the four paragraphs on the subject before he tells “a joke” at the end? That joke means he’s kidding about all of it?

If you want to discuss Charlie Kirk quotes I’m game. If you want to discuss your opinion of his religious beliefs and some two bit of theology you just pulled out of your ass I’ll pass. It is super fucking boring, kind of dumb and I would rather watch paint dry.

Empathy is a valid human emotion that is often used to guilt trip people into responding to things in less than constructive ways. It can be used as a club because it is a powerful emotion. Properly applied empathy will lead to dialogue that produces best outcomes both short and long term. It should not be used for political purposes.
