Pfft. They were just looking for all of the documents that link Hillary and Podesta to Russia. Nothingburger! Do you ever get sick of having the ball snatched away? /s
For what it’s worth, on the morning of the raid Trump was in fine rage tweeting form about transgendered soldiers and Sessions. Coincidence I’m sure.
Here’s a link to the Washington Post article.
I didn’t include the WaPo link b/c it requires a paid subscription, but the story has since gone viral so here’s a link to it on CNN, which is free:
Paul Manafort is the singing canary in the coal mine. My guess is that if he can cop to lesser charges, he’ll betray Twitler in a heartbeat. The raid on his house will increase the pressure on him to lower his demands for a deal.
I was able to read it without a subscription.
I think you have to delete your cookies.
I actually do subscribe, although thanks for the tip - that might end up saving me $10 per month.
He would need to have something that proves that Trump was complicit. Unless Mueller has something that hasn’t been leaked to the press, it’s still plausible that Russia infiltrated Trump’s team rather than that Trump participated (other than by using the WikiLeaks release).
Mueller is probably happy to take down just Flynn and Manafort if he has nothing that can take down a sitting President.
Private/incognito browsing works too (it clears your cookies automatically when you quit the browser).
Perhaps, but I have to think a crowning achievement for a long career would be to indict and convict a president. Instant immortality.
Plus, think about all the stuff Mueller already knows about Trump that we don’t. (It’s probably somewhere on the spectrum between not much and “I saw the pee-pee tape.”) You wouldn’t have to be a Trump hater to want to go after the guy if – as seems likely – he’s shady as fuuuuuck once you see stuff like his tax returns.
The general impression of Mueller (and Comey) is that he’s doing it for Truth, Justice, and the American way. Immortality isn’t in the running.
Avoiding paying for NYT or WaPo is trivially easy. But after the election, my wife and I decided that throwing some money to the media we rely on is the right thing to do. I encourage others to do so as well, precisely because of stories like this.
+1
Also always worth mentioning that if you have Amazon Prime you can get 6 months of WaPo for free and then a steep discount on the monthly rate after that.
In response to Congress passing the sanctions bill, Russia cut the number of people at the US Embassy in Moscow by 755 people. Trump hasn’t said a word about it until today:
“I want to thank him because we’re trying to cut down on payroll, and as far as I’m concerned, I’m very thankful that he let go of a large number of people, because now we have a smaller payroll. There’s no real reason for them to go back. So I greatly appreciate the fact that we’ve been able to cut our payroll of the United States. We’ll save a lot of money.”
This is both stupid and treasonous. Stupid because it doesn’t cut the payroll by a nickel. These people will still be on the payroll, they just won’t be working in Moscow. He has no idea how government works. Treasonous because it undercuts the interests of the US. These people are patriots working in a hostile country to try to do what’s in the best interest of the nation. Now we have fewer people trying to do the same thing and many things just won’t get done. So Dumb Donald is perfectly happy because he’s stupid enough to think the government is saving a trivial amount of money and treasonous enough not to give a flying fuck about the consequences.
What do you expect, though? He’s an America-hating fuckstick.
A supremely ignorant and STUPID America-hating fuckstick.
I did not know that, thanks
I can’t imagine accepting a Cabinet post in Trump’s administration, but for the sake of argument, if I had agreed to be SecState thinking I could affect change from the inside, I would have resigned on the spot as soon as I heard Trump say that. This may be the single most destructive thing he’s said as president, undermining the morale of the entire State Department. The stuff he said about the CIA and the FBI are right up there, and might also be in contention.
