Latest info on the FBI investigation of the shooter:
-he had a transmitter on him that potentially could have set off the explosives in his car
-he asked for the day off of work for personal reasons but said he’d be in on Sunday
-nothing of note was found on his phone. Everything there was just normal stuff for a young adult
I’ll bet that kind of killer is a police officer’s nightmare: random guy with no relevant social media and isn’t noticed by his family and associates until he’s doing it.
I can’t access the video, because fuck Reddit, but it wouldn’t be hard to reconstruct trajectories from a known muzzle placement and known impact points.
This isn’t rocket science, although ballistics is an allied discipline.
The killer was nuts and ill-prepared, but he would have had to be on a whole other level of crazy and stupid to reveal his plans to family and associates and broadcast them on social media.
Not a problem but thank you for the apology anyways!
I was indeed perplexed when I got the call and could not find any confirmation online for several minutes. That’s why I came in here to find out what was going on.
Reporters tend to avoid lengthy constructions. “Trump’s left” may well be short for “to the left of where Trump is standing, as viewed from the main audience area.” And in this case, that’s exactly what was meant: at about the three-minute mark in the 4:39 video linked below (which dates from two days ago), the camera, located in the main audience area, pans left from the podium to the left-most of three reviewing stands, where people are calling for help for the man who was killed (Corey Comperatore).
So Comperatore wasn’t seated in the stand right behind Trump. He was in the stand to the left of the central one–left from the perspective of being in the main audience area.
We could argue all day and night about what reporters mean, and/or about sentence construction. But we would settle nothing. We need video such as this one, and ultimately a timeline and clear diagrams, if we’re ever to have a clear understanding of what happened at that rally.
The counter sniper shot that killed the shooter was made by the team behind the left shoulder of Trump. The team behind his right shoulder did not shoot and it’s believed a tree blocked their view. Diagram within the cite below.
Tree may have blocked sniper team’s view of Trump rally gunman, maps show
The tree, located between the shooter and the sniper team closest to him, may have impaired the team’s line of sight as the gunman climbed onto the roof from where he fired multiple rounds. That sniper team, which was positioned on a roof over Trump’s right shoulder, did not fire the shot that killed the gunman, two federal law enforcement officials told CBS News.
A U.S. Secret Service sniper stationed in a building behind the former president fired one round, killing the gunman, according to multiple law enforcement officials. Two federal law enforcement officers told CBS News the Secret Service team that ultimately killed the shooter was located on a building behind Trump’s left shoulder — with a view that was not blocked by the tree, the CBS analysis shows. That team was initially directed to go another way, so the snipers had to reorient themselves before taking down the gunman, CBS News’ Charlie de Mar reported.
Congress should be looking into it. There should be tough questions. Unfortunately it’s the House Oversight Committee that is doing it. As Jeff Jackson pointed out in a video I posted long ago, that’s the most partisan hack bullshit committee in Congress. It will all be about scoring points against Biden. New drinking game. Drink whenever DEI is mentioned.
Thanks for that. That’s the first I’ve heard of who shot the gunman and where it came from. So the secret service sniper team covering the roof had an obstructed view. That ain’t good.
I believe there were two other sniper teams, both local law enforcement, and they were ground level (one being inside the building the shooter was on top of).
I mean, it’s kind of inevitable, isn’t it? If we take it as a given that there are trees at the venue site, then from any given countersniper position, there will be some locations that are obstructed by trees. I don’t think anyone would suggest that they should cut down all trees anywhere a protected person speaks. So the proper response is to have countersnipers in multiple locations. Which is what they did.
I should have said that building. The closest one to the Stage. You’d think you have someone who could cover the entire roof. But I suppose they were relying on not letting anyone get on top of it, you know, with the police guarding it and all.
