The problem is that he insulted hundreds of millions. Trump hadn’t been a red state brand, he has leased his name to all kinds of endeavors all over the world. He famously made an ass of himself about Brexit when he was visiting his golf course in Scotland. If you think blue state America has had enough of Trump, imagine how the rest of the world is going to react to his brand now.
He probably does have some deals with a good span of years left in them. Both in the US and elsewhere.
Imagine being in charge of (or owning) some golf course or resort or fancy schmancy condo building where you’re obligated to pay to have Trump’s name plastered on your property for the next 10+ years. Sucks to be you.
The contract may have some material impairment clause you could use to escape. But it may not. Either way, tearing down his name and rebranding yourself will be costly and will almost certainly invite a lawsuit from dear old Donald, impairment clause or no. He’ll certainly believe he’s still popular, facts be damned.
There is going to be a lot of angst amongst the fat cat set that did business with him before.
