I work with a guy who did some time overseas years ago working as security for an ambassador. He was also a Trump bodyguard/security person back in the days when Trump was bankrupting casinos. Very MAGA. He stays in touch with people from that world and yesterday came up with this doozy.
The Trump family has established a data center on the moon. Due to its remoteness (I guess) its completely secure. He got this info from a former NSA person and believes it. I pointed out that the logistics of such a thing being done in secret were pretty much impossible. He said “Well, its very small”. The thing is, he is a pretty good guy, otherwise.
P.S. - He was once on an FBI task force (and lets everyone know it) and is conflicted when he sees people he worked with and respects retiring due to what’s going on there and/or bad mouthing his hero. Its kind of fun to watch.
You should ask him about the latency (effectivly the connection speed) between earth and the moon. Also how is data transmitted when the moon is not over the USA (+/- 12 hours of daylight - and yes, I know the moon occasionally can be seen in the day)
The whole concept would be so phenomenally expensive, even if fully autonomous. Who will swap out the server racks that will inevitably clog with regolith, even in a “sealed” environment. And cooling? I assume it will be nuclear powered - isn’t that the other crazy thing Trump wants on the moon?
Edit, one more question… why? What super secret data does Trump & family want to hide in a place that once inevitably detected, would be a major international scandal.
I mean, just rent out a few racks in Kyrgyzstan or some other “shithole country” and encrypt them. It makes slightly more sense in terms of cost effectiveness, if not terribly more logical.
People like that can’t figure out something as simple as who pays tariffs. Facts like the speed of light and data transmission aren’t going to move the needle.
One way to have a completely secure data centre on the moon is simply to declare some piece of Apollo electronics that was left there ‘a data centre’. It’s very secure since it’s powered down and has no interfaces with anything here, and you have to go there to get the ‘data’ out.
It’s such a deep secret that your friend who worked for Trump decades ago heard it from “a former NSA person.” Why not keep the data center in the secure storage facility at Mar-A-Lago?
