tRump pardons Stone

Only if you’re feeding the entire neighborhood.

Oh, yeah. Sad to admit, I am one of them. I know it is juvenile and counterproductive, and is the intelletual equivalet of shooting fish in a barrel. But it helps me blow off steam.

His Don has commuted his sentence and will probably pardon him before leaving office (if pardoned him earlier, Stone couldn’t plead the Vth during the pre-election period).

You cool with Trump commuting/pardoning those who committed crimes against the US and worked with foreign intelligence agencies so that he, Trump, could more likely win? It’s not statutory rape, so maybe not.

Just in case anybody thinks he’s kidding.

I read here in the SDMB that once pardoned, a person may not invoke the 5th about the crime, for s/he has already been found guilty of it.

Agreed – for that crime.

Were he pardoned for the specific crimes for which he was charged, Stone would not be able to invoke the 5th Amendment for these specific crimes, but what about all the other crimes that he has surely committed for which he has not yet been charged?

As I said previously, I’m sure there are plenty of other offenses he has committed for which he would not want to incriminate himself.

Actually, they are sold at pet supply stores, right on the Main Street of your bucolic town. They are called ‘bully sticks’-smoked bull penises.

Give the guys a break… cooped up with a bunch of slavers for days on end, with no way out except for signatures.

Don’t get me wrong, the Constitution definitely is a monument to “how much slavery do we have to keep in order to not be a monarchy”. There was never any possibility of end-running around slavery. It’s not perfect, but it’s a decent job considering who they had to accommodate and persuade.

If he gets called to court and lies about it again, we can try him for another crime and put him away for real.

I’m pretty sure he isn’t playing.

Ohboyohboyohboy…

Roger Stone told Axios in a phone interview that he plans to write and speak for President Trump’s re-election now that Stone “won’t die in a squalid hellhole of corona-19 virus.”

“I’m asthmatic,” said Stone, 67. “Sending me to a prison where I could not be socially distanced … would, I think, be a death sentence.”

Stone said he’ll continue to follow one of his “Stone’s Rules”: “I will do anything necessary to elect my candidate, short of breaking the law.

My bold.

No need to stop there! Stick with what has worked for you.

I disagree with this. I think he’s genuine in his positions, and just happens to be a Trump supporter. He contributes honestly in every thread I’ve seen him in, and seems like a fine poster in non-political threads.

I think people who use “tRump” are more trollish than Tim.

There’s lots of things we should do, but it simply boils down to which party controls the Senate, and right now it’s the Republicans. They control who gets appointed to the Supreme Court, and would in no fucking way approve of limiting the power of one of their own.

Maybe that’ll change this November, but even if it did, Republicans would stoke major liberalphobia and get the majority back in 2022. Still, our mostly conservative SC hasn’t always toed the red line, because they’re at least aware of the consequences of letting politics get out of control.

IIRC, Rich had accepted a plea bargain, had made restitution in exchange for ROR and was out of the country when another judge overturned the plea bargain after the fact. Maybe this doesn’t “justify” Clinton pardoning him but it does give some added perspective.

The Senate has no power to limit Presidential pardons. They would have to amend the Constitution.

The remedy for a President who is giving out of control pardons is Impeachment and Conviction.

Well thank you for that. I never try to be a troll, I just like to express my opinion. Especially in threads where there seems to be a prevailing opinion that EVERYONE thinks a certain way, when I know that there are people with differing views, especially ME. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me. I just like to remind people that whatever you think, other opinions are also valid.

Sure! I think accusations of trollery are often overblown here.

Anyway, back to the subject of this thread, Stone is a despicable racist:

There he is, hanging out with the explicitly white supremacist Proud Boys flashing a white power symbol.

According to Cal Thomas today; Stone is a changed person. He’s found god.

One of many links - Cal Thomas: A higher power than politics

Good enough for me!

Sam_Stone isn’t truly a conservative anymore; at least it appears to me that he has abandoned most of his principles to own the libs. Sam is a Trump supporter through and through. All it took to buy Sam’s loyalty was 200 appeals court judges that probably won’t uphold conservative principles anyway when put to the test.
