Because the Secret Service can put snipers on the roof, and carry guns. How many people have you heard of being shanked at a rally? It’s about 120 prisoners a year.
Secret service will be able to carry guns in prison if that’s deemed appropriate. Remember, they won’t be prisoners, they’ll be special guards.
But what earthly good does a sniper do? Kill the assassin after he kills the president? Not really all the useful.
10x60 mobile home in the middle to the desert behind the fences of area 51. It’s the only way to be sure.
I’m sure they would be there to prevent any inmate from even getting close to Trump in the first place.
How, keep him in solitary? How does he line up to eat, shower, recreation time?
Seriously?
Do you think they can’t build a loo in a segregated building? That they can’t bring him his meals on a tray? That he can’t go walking in a segregated yard?
None of this is difficult for custodial facilities. None of it.
My understanding is that this is a New York matter, so the facility would have to be located in New York State.
But a travel trailer positioned within the walls of an existing jail or prison facility is a good idea. It wouldn’t be as posh as he’s used to (no gold-plated toilets, for example), but it’s much nicer than a cell. Meals can be brought from the kitchen, or he could be allowed groceries, so he could cook meals for himself. The trailer can be enclosed by a fence allowing him access to the outdoors, while still restricting his movement within the facility. The Secret Service can be positioned outside of it (hope those guys get some chairs; they won’t be going anywhere).
Does Trump get to hand pick his Secret Service detail? Are they his own personal Praetorian Guard even as ex-President? Or is assignment to the Trump detail a punishment? Because I’d be willing to guess Trump is terrible to his detail. Not only do they have to put up with his smell and his blathering, he probably also treats them like servants. We know he charges them rent. So sure, they’ll take a bullet for him because that’s part of the job. But going to jail with him is not part of the job and if they dislike the job as much as they ought to I think they would be happy to let him become someone else’s problem.
I’d prefer he use a portable toilet.
I’d bet 1000 quatloos he’s never, in his life, cooked a meal for himself.
I could get behind a trailer home. It’s not as sparse as a typical cell, but it certainly isn’t lavish and not up to the standards to which he’s accustomed. Especially if most of the space is to accommodate the SS agents on shift. He could be segregated enough for security while not strictly in solitary.
But he should be subject to the “loaf”* of he acts up.
–
- A prison warden somewhere has a special recipe loaf made of bread mixed with veggies. It supposedly is nutritiously balanced but still akin to bread and water. Prisoners are said to detest the stuff.
The job is to protect him, wherever he is. And there’s a difference between working in a jail and “going to jail”. The agents assigned to him can still go home to a comfortable house and family, and go wherever they want when they’re off-duty, and eat whatever they want, and so on.
He’s not in solitary. He has visitors as appropriate to his double wide near the fence. He does not line up for food, he has his special meals brought to him. He has a private shower facility. He has his own “yard” for recreation, his own TV and even his own mini-golf.
In short, he’s incarcerated in a special private area within the prison, with Secret service agents guarding who gets in and out. and potentially staying on site (in another trailer) in shifts.
Trump was convicted of falsifying business records in the first degree , which is a felony. The sentencing guidelines are the same whether he pleads guilty to that crime or is convicted of that crime. It’s a class E non-violent felony and the sentence can be probation or a definite sentence of 1 year or an indeterminate sentence with a maximum term of up to 4 years .
There are two slightly different ways that a plea bargain can work in NY - first, you can plead guilty to a reduced charge, in this case falsifying business records in the second degree , a Class A misdemeanor. The sentence will be probation, a fine, or up to one year in jail. The second way is to plead guilty to the original charge in exchange for the prosecutor recommending a lower sentence- say probation rather than incarceration. Only the judge can decide the sentence but usually the defendant knows what the sentence will be before actually taking the plea.
Now that would be reality TV I would watch. “Next week Donald Trump will attempt to make a grilled cheese”
I don’t agree that solitary would be a violation of his rights. Other prisoners are in solitary. Does DJT have super-dee-dooper rights that other prisoners don’t have? I don’t think so.
Like Frank in Godfather II- put a trailer (even a double-wide for a double wide inmate) inside a miltiary facility. Put a fenced yard around the trailer. Even give him a swing set and sandbox to play in. Problem solved.
You need to do something much worse than anything he’s been convicted of to get solitary.
But it’s not solitary if his secret service detail is with him. Solitary is about being separated from human contact. As i said above, unless he tries to shank a guard or something, that’s not going to happen to him.
I don’t buy the “we can’t absolutely guarantee his security in the general population without packing heat, therefore imprisonment is an impossibility” argument. It’s pretty simple. Get a couple stools. Have SS agents with batons sitting outside his cell. When he leaves the cell, store the stools in his cell and go with him to meals or shower or outdoor time or whatever. Two agents with batons in addition to the normal security force should keep him safe.
