Trump supporters who need the ACA are in for a rude surprise

They’ll blame the negative effects of repealing the ACA on Obama and the Dems for destroying the healthcare and insurance industries with their socialist pipe dreams. The red tribe will eat it up.

Yet another GOP bald-faced lie. You cannot have universal access when companies are free to deny you coverage. Not letting them deny coverage was kinda the point of ACA.

Well, now, just a second there! You’ve *got *the coverage, no denying that! They can take it away from you, but you still have it until they do. After all, can’t take away something that isn’t there in the first place, now can you?

(Been learning a lot here about how to think like a tighty-righty. Not sure that is good mental hygiene.)

I disagree. The liberals took God out of the schools after all.

( live around them long enough and it gets much easier to do tighty-righty thinking )

Also, I find the title of this thread problematic. It’s like saying, “Man who put loaded gun to his head, was warned for years that if he pulled the trigger he would die, and still pulls it anyways is in for a rude surprise”.

It might sting for a bit, but not for long.

Well, he thought the bullets were made of soap bubbles and it was all in fun. Or he thought the gun was carved from a bar of chocolate. Why? Because he was stupid. He believed his con man leader. “What?? You’re really gonna do it??”

He was like that sad, sad little 7-year old in the suicide bombing thread. Hugs and kisses and “you’ll be fine,” then-- !! “I didn’t think you’d go through with it!”

I’ve been expecting that this is exactly what they will do.

First of all, they’ve been saying for eight years that they were going to repeal it and replace it with something better, but we’ve never heard a word about what that “something better” will consist of. So obviously they do not have any better ideas.

Second, it has been shown that people who are against “Obamacare” are actually in favor of the “Affordable Care Act”, not realizing that they are one and the same. So it doesn’t matter what’s in it, as long as you get the name right.

So all they have to do is repeal “Obamacare”, pass a new law with a new name that does the exact same thing, and they will be heroes.

Part of me thinks they will do this…and part of me not. There will be interesting fights between the true-blood ideologues and the pragmatists who realize what a disaster the ideologues’ ideas would lean them into. We can sit back and eat popcorn and watch them fight it out. (No, I am not seriously advocating a completely cavalier attitude about what they do…but, seriously, the Republicans will soon learn that governing is a lot harder than just trying to undermine the government.)

Not only that, they gave him the nuclear codes without so much as a 5 minute lesson on using them. Not even an owners manual.

Sounds to me they’re saying they’re talking about keeping the “can’t deny due to preconditions” part but getting rid of the mandate., which, from a political standpoint, makes sense, since the mandate is the least popular part of the ACA.

Yeah…and they are talking about getting rid of the taxes but keeping the spending. But, what are they going to do once they find out it don’t work that way? (I’m not just asking that rhetorically…I really am wondering what will happen.)

But how can the government be blamed when there won’t be a government left by the time Trump and his merry band of swamp dwellers are done with it?

Haven’t y’all been paying attention? The Republicans do have a plan. HHS nominee Price has had a replacement in his back pocket for years. This is presumably why he got the HHS nod.

5 Things To Know About Rep. Tom Price’s Health Care Ideas

Google <Price HHS Obamacare> for plenty of commentary and more detail. His plan is full of land mines and tiger traps.

I agree with watching the interesting fights, I just don’t think it will do any good for us as a whole because the ACA by itself is failing to make health care affordable. The Republicans aren’t offering any fixes for that no matter which of its factions wins.

Gut the constructive portions of the government entirely regardless of the consequences. That’s been a strategy of theirs for years, “Starve the beast”; the idea that they should boost the debt as high as possible, slash taxes as much as possible and crash the economy as hard as possible so that the government will have no money and be forced to massively shrink due to the money just not being there.

Of course that’ll create a great deal of misery and death; but for Republicans that’s a bonus, not a problem.

You sound like me now. I say, let them roast in the hell of their own making. They wanted it, they got it. Bon appetit.

And when they DO die for lack of the insurance and benefits they thought they were taking away from someone ELSE, remember the words of Lemmy…

Shanna, they bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash.

Yes, it would be a public relations disaster for the GOP to actually repeal ACA.

However, the changes will not just be non-substantive window dressing. They will want to improve drug and insurance company profits while bilking the taxpayers and running up the deficit to further “Starve the Beast.” They’ll take the credit for any good left in ACA while blaming the Democrats for the problems.

I don’t think they care; they’re True Believers. They’ll destroy it not out of some calculation of political advantage, but because they genuinely hate it.
