Trump Threatens to Send in the Feds to Chicago

I’d say Chumming is exactly what Bill O’Reilly was doing with his report. Trump fell for it, as do a lot of you posters here.

O’Reilly’s just cycling through one of his patented narratives - which is basically “LOOKOUT, IT’S BLACK PEOPLE!! BE AFRAID! BE VERY AFRAID!

If you watch him enough he circles back to this every few weeks. And y’all just EAT IT UP.

What type of constitutional law do you think this violates?

And would you be okay with the Supreme Court ruling that Republicans cannot occupy a single office in any of those states that have the highest crime rates, highest rates of welfare usage, and lowest educational levels for ten years or so to give Democrats a chance to clean up the conservative mess? [Oh, yeah, Alaska has the distinction of having the highest per-capita crime rate of any state for several years, while Louisian usually has the highest welfare usage and Mississippi competes for lowest educational attainment.] You think outlawing one political party is A-OK; would you still support that if it’s your political party that screwed up the place?

Chicago has never had the opportunity to have good federal gun control laws, since guns are WIDELY available just outside the city limits, and many many guns used in Chicago crimes come from places with lax gun control such as Indiana and Mississippi (cite; another cite).

And arresting and jailing people doesn’t actually stop crime, not when our prisons are little more than trade schools for criminals and are themselves awash in drugs. (Here’s a typical case, unusual in that the feds actually investigated and are prosecuting. Most state corrections departments don’t have the budget for that anymore.) At the state prison with which I am most familiar, it is much MUCH easier for an inmate to obtain drugs, booze, porn, or a cell phone than decent food, proper medical care, or educational materials–what do you expect is the end result?

On a public forum message board? Why would anyone expect something like that?

Most legal systems, including police actions, are meant to be applied to all the same, without fear nor favour, even if the heavens fall. I don’t know enough about the American legal system to know if that is included as one of it’s tenets.

I would think that arresting people for having guns, and locking those people up for 10 years would definitely have an effect on gun violence. Certainly for 10 years.
This is not something I would be in favour of — I think guns are great, and wish we had more outside the US, at least for me and people I like — but it’s demented to suppose harsh laws do not suppress whatever they are purposed to suppress. However the intense and burning legalism of the United States militates somewhat against effectual action.
I kind of doubt the judiciary apparatus of Illinois, judges, cops, prison staff, lawyers etc. are all bleeding heart liberals who feel prison is not the answer.
Several ex-governors of Illinois have probably come round to that point of view.

Would be perfectly fine with that. Is there, in fact, a city where Republicans ruled uninterruptedly for 150 years and where the crime rates have been among the highest in the nation for the last 50-60 of those?

I hope you’re not talking about Chicago, because that’s not the case with Democratic rule there. Nor is that the case for Detroit.

I was talking about New Orleans, where Demonrats have been holding mayoral position uninterrupdly since the middle of 19th century. I believe we’ll soon celebrate a century of similar (mis)rule in Chicago, and half a century in Detroit.

Of course, the Democratic Party in the South was pretty much the opposite of the current Democratic Party until Roosevelt.

(Bolding mine)

“Demonrats”?

I said “state with the highest crime rates.” Currently, that honor falls to Alaska, a state in which rapes, for example, are three times the national average. Other states with very high crime rates include Nevada, Louisiana, Tennessee, Florida, New Mexico, and South Carolina (although their exact ranking varies from year to year). Of these, only New Mexico is unabashedly blue.

The list of states with very high levels of food stamp usage include Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, New Mexico, West Virginia, and Oregon. Most of these also show up on the list of states with particularly low levels of school funding and of educational achievement (such as percentage graduating high school). Which party do you think controls the majority of these states?

yep, demonrats.

They’ve taken New York already.

Excellent. Sticking with this example: is rape as serious of a crime as murder and how many decades ( or centuries) have Republicans been running Alaska uninterruptedly?

Remember all that paranoia on the right about Obama’s plot to invade Texas with federal troops?

“Orange Helm 17”

There is lot more political issues Trump has to be worried about. I think Detroit and Chicago will be the lowest on his list.

What he is going to do send in the FBI or the army like they did in New Orleans. And start doing massive of streets arrests.

Well he’s done it!

It’s just that some of us don’t consider that about 20 more U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents being sent to Chicago to combat gun violence that significant.

Cool, now I can blame any Chicago shootings on Trump for doing the job half-assed.

It’s cool with me as long as I can blame Obama for having done a half-assed job as a community organizer in Chicago and in the Illinois Senate, leaving without solving the problem.

He’s putting together his morality-teaching squad right now.

People spent eight years doing that anyway so what would be different? But Trump has thrown down the gauntlet of direct action so the Chicago homicide rate is his baby now.

Piffle - that won’t stop them from blaming Obama. The heat death of the universe wouldn’t stop them from blaming Obama. About the only thing that will, sometimes, stop them from blaming Obama is if they can blame Hillary instead.
