Absent an actual 2024 GOP platform, Democrats need to keep reminding voters that the fascist wet dream manifesto, Project 2025 is the de facto Republican platform.
While it’s important to be vigilant of course, like many other people I was fairly confident in 2016 that Hillary Clinton would win and look where that got us, I do have to admit between the numbers we saw in the Republican primary results and this most recent result in Alabama there is reason to have hope if we need something to look to. Still overconfidence would be a mistake so I’m so glad to see how aggressively the Biden campaign has came out at least at the start. It’s still a long time between now and november.
No, it’s got a lot of “people are saying” lines but few actual cites. For example:
According to Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg, Biden now holds a narrow lead in 9 recent national polls.
Ok. When did he say that? Where?
Another consistent data point in the GOP exit polls was that anywhere from 25% to 35% of Republicans won’t vote for Trump in November. Even Fox “News” said that Trump can’t win with those numbers.
Those sound like good facts, but which exit polls and when did Fox News say that?
Which is, you know, fine. This is (a) on an incredibly biased website and (b) is an unvetted blog post on an incredibly biased website. And I’m not even impugning the blog post itself, because it’s just a blog post. Just somebody ranting on the internet. But it is not news and it’s not analysis.
Kos is what it is but, as EddyTeddyEtc says, you have to normalize for anything posted there by giving it extra scrutiny. It’s too easy to fall into the “Ah yes, Kos speaks the truth yet again!” because they’re saying what you want to hear.
I’m pushing back on the idea that because it’s on kos, it’s automatically just opinion and BS. Some of your points are fair, but he does cite some actual numbers to back up his claims in the article. It’s not mere opinion. And yes, it’s a diary. The staff writers more or less meticulously cite everything.
Kos is explicitly biased, as it is explicitly a site to support the Democratic party. But I think the staff writers tend to do good, sober work in assessing the current situation.
I call BS on this for the aforementioned reason: the staff writers are not idiot cheerleaders; they are pretty darn good journalists who back up what they say, and they are not universally positive. When the stats are against us, they say that. But even then they cheerlead and recommend how to overcome the situation.
