The AP is reporting that they don’t have the votes, and it’s “increasingly unlikely” a vote will happen today.
Does anyone else find it disconcerting that Koch is basically bribing politicians for their votes on this? I mean, I get it. This stuff happens all the time but…never so blatantly.
And they’re offering bribes to vote against the bill.
This is one of those rare times it’s fun to be in the minority.
Is this legal? I thought that documented quid pro quo was forbidden even in the post citizens united era.
It’s not an illegal quid pro quo. It’s just that they are supporting the representatives who best represent their interests.
Vote is cancelled
Maybe they’ll go back to the drawing board and take more than an afternoon to craft a substitute. Yeah, I know. As if.
What a tragedy.
I’m enjoying this immensely.
Politico article on the vote cancellation: Trump demands Friday health care vote - POLITICO
Trump, who tells us over and over again just how amazing he is at deal-making and negotiating, couldn’t get this deal done.
And, the quotes from Sean Spicer are sadly humorous.
Per CNN, the White House is confident the vote will happen tomorrow morning.
Ha, ha, ha, hee, hee, hee, hoo. Good one.
Senator Pat Roberts, of Kansas, was asked whether he supported the cuts that Trumpcare would be implementing, and his reply was, “I wouldn’t want to lose my mammograms." After he was called out on the Internet, he rapidly backtracked.
Yeah…this is one of those “sit back and eat popcorn” moments.
So the House voted 40 times to repeal when there was a Democrat in the White House. But the first time there’s a Republican, and there are, ya know, actual *consequences *of their actions, they punt.
Pass the popcorn.
I’m exhausted. I’ve been spending basically 99% of my work day every day on fighting the health care changes from this congress.
I needs a big nap. And tequila.* I don’t care in which order.
- I don’t even drink, really. But it just sounds good.
There is no Plan C.
From the Politico article above:
The president is good at negotiating, but he has to have someone who wants to get to yes. I was never able to sell a car or a truck to someone who didn’t want a car or a truck. It just doesn’t work. And that’s where we are right now. I don’t think they’re really interested in getting to an ‘end.’
Now GOP leadership knows how Obama felt. All those years of people bagging on Obama for not being able to negotiate . . .
I don’t want to crow too much, since this fight is surely not over… but if I had a twitter account, I’d be tempted to tweet something like “@RealDonaldTrump Too bad you aren’t the negotiator Obama was”
He won’t read it, he’s too busy playing Truck Driver.
How can the vote be cancelled? It’s supposed to be today, yes? If they don’t have the yes votes by today it should fail, yes?
American politics are strange.
I thought it would be pretty easy to craft a great substitute that everyone can agree on. However, despite my former rosy opinion, I just learned to my great surprise that health care is pretty complicated.
The calendar of which bills are scheduled for votes on which dates is set by the congressional leadership. So basically, they can do anything they want.
