And of course they were desperate to have the vote today, seeing as today is the 7th anniversary of Obama’s signing of the ACA - which took some 15 months of work to pass, while the GOP was revving up to ram through the ACHA in just a couple of months.
(Yes, I know, seven years to come up with a replacement … yeah, right.)
The very sad thing is that according to the last reports, Trump was negotiating by offering to cut even more Obamacare regulations to the most conservative members. They still did not bite…
He also offered to cut more items that the insurance companies must cover to call “insurance” what they would offer to the people.
Trump was/is making deals to see how much worse Trumpcare can be.
Its easy to make a health insurance plan that costs less. Just cover less.
Or, we could unleash the free market! Allow insurance providers to offer alternative health plans, plans that are tailored for individual preferences. For instance, insurance for the stupid, who can be conned into paying for “insurance” that provides the warm feeling of security without any actual money being involved. Buying the sizzle, there is no steak.
Let me ask: when was the last time you saw or heard one of those reports about Big HealthCo “rescinding” some poor dumb shmuck’s insurance because of some “pre-existing condition”? To my recollection, its been a while. About seven years, give or take.
I thought they were going to put together a terrible substitute that the GOP would agree on. Importantly, they still might. Shields up. Call your representative.
Shucks, now they can’t pass the tax-cut-for-the-wealthy bill, at least using budget reconciliation. Too bad, the Koch’s have just talked themselves out of a hefty refund (assuming they haven’t arranged to avoid taxes altogether).
Love that the CBO came back with a score that said " you guys made it even more expensive, and 24 million still lose their insurance! WTF?"
538 tweeted that Trump has done in 2 months what the Dems couldn’t accomplish in 7 years: make Obamacare popular.
Trump and Ryan are done negotiating and Trump is demanding a vote tomorrow.
Trump is making it very hard to be a GOP Senator or Congressman nowadays, regardless of how red their District is. He is making them all look like him.
Indeed, that’s pretty “impressive” that they ammended to put $186 billion, over 10 years, back in play, and they still couldn’t cut down on the number of projected uninsured. Although, the CBO does point out that "Estimates differ by no more than half a million people in any category in any year ", which is a somewhat meaningful number of people, I suppose.
Not really amazing when you consider who most of those amendments were trying to appease…The crazy-than-average-Republicans (which is saying something)! I am kind of surprised it didn’t increase the number of projected uninsured. Maybe the amendments that have watered down what constitutes a base insurance plan have allowed enough to remain “insured” and that’s why the number of projected uninsured hasn’t risen from the previous estimate.
[Actually, I just thought of a slogan for the “Freedom Caucus”…“They put the dom in freedom”! But, hey, if they tank this bill, it shows that idiots really can be useful.]
I want ACA to go away. I’ve been wanting this for what, seven years now? But better for it to stay and hopefully get fixed than be replaced with something worse. Republicans apparently can’t get it done, so it just won’t get done. Move on to tax reform.
The problem with ultimatums is that eventually people will call you on them. If not this time, then next. Even if it passes, I wouldn’t call him a genius yet. His opponents will be waiting.
