The cost is too high. It would sure be validating to Hillary voters if Trump starts a nuclear war, too. But I should hope that there aren’t many people cheering that on.
Sure, I’d rather have had the bill come to a vote and fail, but I’m happy with it getting pulled. Just means that the GOP only got one black eye instead of two.
[I’VE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE
Donald Trump’s healthcare debacle is ripped directly from “Arrested Development”](I’VE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE Donald Trump’s healthcare debacle is ripped directly from “Arrested Development”)
Just watched Ryan’s press conference and it is clear that he hasn’t learned anything from the experience. There were some many questions I wanted reporters to ask him:
Did it ever occur to you to come up with a bill that earns praise instead of nearly-universal criticism from doctors, AARP, hospitals, … and that the CBO finds will actually not dramatically increase the number of uninsured Americans?
Do you think one of the top priorities of the American people is to take money away from health care subsidies and give it as a tax cut to the wealthy top few percent of Americans?
Indeed…Republicans (at least at the national level) don’t know how to fashion legislation that helps people (beyond the top few percent); they only know how to sabotage legislation that helps people. They are really more of an organized crime syndicate than a political party.
When the time came for the Republicans to put their top talent to use, obstruction, they found the only people there to obstruct were themselves. So they did. Hey, it’s what they’re good at.
Next up: “We’re going to build a shitty half-fence thing on the border, and your grandchildren will be paying off the graft that went to the contractors who are connected to our party.”
You need to broaden that a bit more. Considering all the other comical fiascos so far, remove “Care” and substitute “Presidency”.
But I wonder who is genuinely surprised by this latest debacle. Obamacare was and remains an attempt to thread the needle in an impossibly fucked-up system dominated by private health insurance. It works for the majority of its mediocre intended purposes, and the only way to really improve it is with a public option, which is exactly the opposite of everything Republicans stand for. Instead, they want to replace it with something that reflects their free-enterprise values driven solely by the almighty dollar, which is exactly the opposite of how health care works. And what do you know, they failed. What a freaking surprise!
Trump was right – he’s managed to replace Obamacare with “something terrific”, namely: Obamacare + Ryan’s assurance that “it will be the law of the land for the foreseeable future”. Never had that before from the other side!
Maybe not; in his concession statement – er, ah, declaration of oh, well, on to tax reform! just now, he kept insisting that Obamacare was going to implode and then explode and then everyone would come back together on the great, wonderful new bill he’d have, and it was totally not his fault it all went wrong. Of course, he doesn’t remember from one day to the next what he’s said, so you could also be right.
Meanwhile, it’s been so much fun seeing Nancy Pelosi on TV chiding The Donald, with a subtle smirk lurking on her carefully Serious Face, over his “rookie error” at pushing for a vote on the bill when he wasn’t sure he had the votes necessary; “rookie error” she repeated, throttling down the laughter.
And, as an added bonus, Trump and his minions are going to make sure that they try to fuck up the current situation as badly as possible, just for spite.
