This was a bad bill that only worked best for the rich. I’m glad it failed. I am worried Trump will just let the ACA die out of spite

Me too. My assumption is that his first executive order has eliminated the penalties for not buying insurance and the taxes to fund the ACA.

Does anyone know if things described in the following section will destroy the financial underpinning of the ACA or does the “maximum extent of the law” kick in to stop the death of the ACA by benign neglect?

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services (Secretary) and the heads of all other executive departments and agencies (agencies) with authorities and responsibilities under the Act shall exercise all authority and discretion available to them to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay the implementation of any provision or requirement of the Act that would impose a fiscal burden on any State or a cost, fee, tax, penalty, or regulatory burden on individuals, families, healthcare providers, health insurers, patients, recipients of healthcare services, purchasers of health insurance, or makers of medical devices, products, or medications.

Just watched a news clip from Ryan from Wisconsin lamenting today’s failure and repeatedly referencing Obamacare, without a single utterance of the term Trumpcare. He sounded more like a hockey forward explaining a game loss to the local news. Sure didn’t miss a chance to get the name of the existing law wrong, including Obama’s name, without ever once saying the name Trump. Fuck him. Fuck the congressional Republicans, hard. Prick bastards.

First I want to sincerely thank jsgoddess for her hard work on this issue - you are my hero today and if I drank, I’d have one for you. Thank you Thank you Thank you!

What I think some people are forgetting is that President Obama rev2009 had “Team of Rivals” fantasies. He was sincerely trying to work with the Republicans on his health care bill, so much so that he selected a conservative blueprint.

That is why it’s so hard for the Pubes to come up with a conservative health care plan - the best one is taken, it’s called the ACA.

And I now have an idea for Trump. He should announce that he is putting Mitt Romney on as a special health care consultant, to craft a plan based on his signature Massachusetts legislation known as RomneyCare.

Then they can throw in a few fixes and put together something that they could actually get passed - they won’t have the Freedom Caucus but they should be able to get most of the Democrats. And the optics would be wonderful- they can rename it TrumpCare, and convince their base that it’s new and different ( that part should be easy, they’ll believe anything). And anytime anyone points out the obvious, they can just yell “Fake News”! And they’ll also have achieved their real goal, denying Obama his signature achievement ( or getting his name off it). That part sucks but when the Dems get back in power they can change it back

The whole things is frighteningly similar to the Hillary care debacle in the 80’s. A politically clueless jackass makes a bunch of idiotic promises about how great and easy healthcare fixing will be, while everybody else says they have no clue. But they kept pushing it on some delusion that the universe will reward their blind ambition and just make it happen and ballads of their greatness will be written. Interesting to see if he follows her suit, as he has promised, to take his ball and go crying home until everybody realizes their error and comes on their knees pleading to be saved.

Here’s what I don’t get about the Republicans and the ACA. If the thing is as bad as they pretend it is, then there’s no need to replace it. They need to just repeal it and simply go back to what was in place before it. Or–and this is delicious–they should go full on socialist and give the country the same medical care system active duty military have.

My recommendation, in reality, is to copy the system the Republic of Korea has. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the trumpanzees all think that’s North Korea and naysay it for that reason alone.

You know what he should do? Sit down with Bernie Sanders, draft a universal healthcare plan and call it Trumpcare. Then he tells the Pubs, “Pass this or I’ll fucking veto every piece of legislation you send to my desk.” He’d only need a handful to get it done with the Dems, and with some blue district Pubs desperate to keep their jobs in 2018, it might not be too hard.

Either that or they call his bluff and start the impeachment process. Either way, America wins.
