The Dems are apparently drafting some legislation with a public option and a few other Obamacare fixes, figuring maybe Trump will more or less do as you suggest. Kinda of a longshot (they tried the same thing with an infrastructure bill when Trump first started as Prez, which didn’t go anywhere), but worth a try. If nothing else, having a bunch of legislation written up and ready to go means even if it doesn’t go anywhere, they have a developed starting point when they actually are in a position to pass something, instead of scrambling around like idiots at the last minute (unlike a certain other political party, which will remain nameless).
Seems like a good way to make sure the Republicans suddenly remember they can subpeona his tax-returns. So I doubt he’s going to try and strong arm the Republicans. But than, as you say, he just needs enough to break ranks to convince Ryan/McConnell to bring it to the floor.
That’s the good side of having a President with no core values and no interest in policy. He just wants to “win.” I think it’s possible, but a long shot (obviously).
That should go after seeing and listening to all the toadies and ass kissers of Trump that told us what “a deal maker” or " big negotiator" Trump was supposed to be, and that he was going to make the new law to pass congress and eventually to be signed:
In all honesty, I have my dream job. There have been a few times over the past few days and weeks… and months… holy shit, no wonder I’m tired! that I was wondering what the fuck I was doing and being grateful that stress doesn’t actually cause ulcers. But for the most part? This is the thing I want to do for the rest of my life. Nothing is as interesting as health policy! (It’s okay, even my coworkers think I’m fucking weird about it.)
And I’m having a fantastic fucking week. My husband has been out of town for a month and he’s coming home tonight. I am the luckiest person in the world.
That would have been if they passed that monstrosity. Instead, the Freedom Caucus being a bunch of ideologues saved the rest of us.
Rumor has it that about 25 Freedom Caucusers were going to vote no, and that the number of other Rs voting no would have been double that. In other words, they would have been over 50 votes short, if those numbers are right. Of course, there’s a big difference between saying how you’ll vote, especially in private, and actually voting. But still, if that’s right-ish, the vote wouldn’t have been all that close. And that’s not even accounting for the possible avalanche once it wasn’t going to pass. That would have given huge cover to some, while admittedly there would be some who would vote yes once they were sure it didn’t matter.
+100 to jsgoddess and skdo23, is there something in the air? Over here I got the good news that after 3 years, the visa for my wife just finished one of the last hurdles.
I’m happy as a clam too. Too bad for the [del]Trumpists[/del] ones that we just
dispatched at [del]congress[/del] a Chinese buffet.
Nah. He can’t fuck Ryan over. He needs him to pass a tax break for the super-rich. Which is actually the only thing Trump has principles on. “I don’t pay taxes, that’s for the little people.”
skdo23, it’s the start of a great adventure. Enjoy every single second 'cause they go by way too fast.
Oh, and both of your daughter’s names were on the short list for our (now not so) Little Princess. Love them both.
