I propose that the OSCARS are suspended, or at least boycotted by the industry, until this is lifted. What say you?
I assume we will shortly hear of Trump Pictures, just like TrumpRX was announced after the tariff on foreign made drugs. I think keeping the Oscars with a foreign film category would aggravate Trump more than suspending the Oscars.
I say that no one is going to agree to suspending or boycotting the Oscars, and even if they did, it would have no effect in changing his mind.
Where exactly is the tariff supposed to be applied? The ticket price at point of sale? The up-front distribution agreement? The back-end net on close of exhibition? How the fuck is this going to even work?
Using Trump’s calculation other countiries impose an average tariff of -214% on US film and TV exports.
If he applies the logic of the April reciprocal tariffs, the US should be imposing a -107% tariff on movie imports to help balance the trade (i.e. for every $1 a company receives from a US company / individual for their movie the government give them another $1.07)
I see the problem.
