On the plus side, no child will graduate high school without learning how to sell a Tombstone Piledriver.
It might be hard to say no to someone so powerful.
Also, Trump’s cabinet picks may not last long, and then Oz can move up.
The same question can be asked as to why Lutnick took commerce when he wants treasury.
Commerce secretary isn’t as desirable a position as Treasury secretary but it’s still relatively public. But CMS administrator? Unless you work in healthcare, you probably don’t think about that person at all.
I believe that Sec of Commerce has the biggest role in trade/tariff policy and Lutnick is a big tariff hawk for Trump - so likely it’s more about Trump wanting someone to put in his tariff regime than anything else.
That’s a point. I’m a college graduate, and until I just googled it, I had no idea what a Tombstone Piledriver is myself.
Does the wrestling executive have any qualifications for the job, other than being allowed within 1,500 feet of a school?
I wonder how McMahon’s qualification compare to Betsy DeVos, the Trump 45 education secretary, who was barely confirmed (Collins and Murkowski against) even though DeVos apparently served as an in-school mentor for at-risk children in the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Public Schools for fifteen years. I do not see any education-related employment for McMahon in her Wikipedia article.
This time around, it really seems as though Trump has discarded any pretense of nominating people who arguably have some level of relevant experience; he’s just nominating people who are (a) loyalists, and (b) guaranteed to “pwn the libs” by how ludicrous their nominations are.
Would you please check your link? I got a 404 “Page not Found” message.
Delete the two asterisks from the URL and it works.
Thanks!
Maybe not so fast: WWE: Vince, Linda McMahon Named in New ‘Ring Boy’ Sex Abuse Lawsuit
In fairness to McMahon, I see this in the AP article on her nomination:
McMahon served on the Connecticut Board of Education for a year starting in 2009.
So, while she is poorly qualified, I’m not totally sure she is less qualified than DeVos was.
Also, the presumed plan is for her to only serve for the short time until her Department is eliminated.
Is that the pizza with everything?
I swear, he has names of his favorite ass-kissers in one fishbowl, and cabinet departments in another fishbowl, and he’s just drawing one from each at random. “Hegseth/Defense…? Sure why the hell not.”
She’s not Mike Miles so that’s a plus for her.
Back to Dr. Oz:
From The Cut
“Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take on the illness industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic diseases left in its wake,” Trump said in a statement.
The ILLNESS INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX? This bodes well.
I so wish that were his sole motivation. Alas, it appears Mehmet Oz’s motivation was at least in part to line his pockets. Example: his relationship with Usana,
a Utah-based supplement manufacturer that has been investigated by federal authorities, sued by its own shareholders, and accused of operating like a pyramid scheme.
The company was also a top advertiser on Oz’s show, paying at least $50 million to be a “trusted partner and sponsor” featured in regular segments that often blurred the line between medical advice and advertising…,
And then there’s hydroxychloroquine…
During the coronavirus pandemic, Oz promoted the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment. The drug can cause heart rhythm abnormalities, severe liver inflammation, and kidney failure. It was also found to be ineffective treating the virus. Oz’s financial disclosure shows he held at least $630,000 of stock in two companies that offered the product, as first reported by CNBC.
Not sure if that’s a joke or not, but just to clarify for any non-wrestling fans out there, it’s the Undertaker’s finishing move. I was making light of her connection to WWE.
Pretty sure it’s a joke, based on Tombstone frozen pizza.
Wikipedia describes Linda McMahon as a retired professional wrestling performer.
So is she a face, or a heel like Hall-of-Famer Donald Trump?
What does that even mean?? That’s one wild-ass mission statement.
Just to clarify. I think Dr. Oz is a terrible choice with no administrative experience. I was simply pointing out that compared to the other choices he does at least have a tangential connection to the job he is nominated for. Also, as a cardiac surgeon he dealt with Medicare patients regularly and is at least aware of some of their needs such as affording required medication.
