Trump's new cabinet

Wait, what? Beef fat is healthier than plant-based oil?

Probably not. Remember this is what RFK Jr. is saying. You have to consider the source.

We really have slipped through a transdimensional wormhole into Bizarro World, haven’t we?

Not even for the yumminess that is McDonalds beef tallow fries do I want this dick hole dicktating what I eat. Nothing I’ve read so far says beef tallow is healthier; both type of oils have different pros and cons. What a(nother) dumbass idea.

It depends on what you are looking at.

Essentially, beef tallow is high in saturated fats, which are bad for heart clogging. Seed oils are lower in saturated fats with more poly-unsaturated fats, which are more heart friendly; however, they can create transfats during cooking, which are very bad.

RFK Jr doesn’t like seed oils because the shift in obesity in this country coincides with the shift away from animal fats to seed oils in cooking.

He’s taking for the “correlation means causation” fallacy. A lot of dietary changes occurred, including larger portion sizes, an increase in highly processed food in our diets, and especially more sugars like high-fructose corn syrup used in processing foods, even things that aren’t necessarily sweet.

Ha! Must have been my subconcious at work because I didn’t deliberately pick the word with THAT in mind.

I saw that too.

I’m no fan of Pam Bondi, but she did serve two full terms as Florida AG.

The Secretary of Agriculture thinks we should all just raise chickens in our backyards. It will be awesome! The Fox host agrees that that sounds like a great idea. I hope no one spoils their fun and tells them about bird flu.

Ron Filipkowski: “Trump’s Sec of Agriculture Brooke Rollins says the solution to high egg prices for Americans is to get some chickens and raise them in your backyard.” — Bluesky

The term ‘hen house’ comes to mind…

Perhaps a reason for Ernst to have rolled over on the Hegseth nom has come to light?

Ernst had “romantic relationships” with military officers lobbying Congress for various military priorities between 2019 and 2023, one with a Navy officer and one with an Air Force general. The fact of these relationships might have been used as leverage to gain her vote on the Hegseth nomination back in January.

How’s that swamp draining coming?

Again, not a Cabinet post, but it does show that at least Trump’s team will reliably choose the creepiest person for any position. Gotta have that leverage!

Good news! Anti-vaccine Dave Weldon is out:

White House withdraws controversial pick to run the CDC

I hope it’s not just that they found someone even MORE anti-vaccine. (Jenny McCarthy???)

(Actually the toll of measles, increasing every day, may be the reason the Trumpites are pulling back on the anti-science stuff.)

Earlier in the thread, I was perhaps a bit too critical of Surgeon General nominee Janette Nesheiwat, who Trump dropped today after Laura Loomer came out against her. The new nominee is Casey Means.

Nesheiwat might have padded her resume, but she is an actual board certified licensed physician. According to my Wikipedia link, Means is an unlicensed residency dropout.

correction after editing deadline:

I should have written:

“Means is unlicenced and failed to complete her residency.”

While Means says she dropped out, we do not know the actual reason she failed to complete her surgical residency. I found this reddit physician discussion with reasons why pushed out would be more plausible.

In any event, she is radically unqualified to lead the Public Health Service.

I’m shocked she is being nominated. Not for her views but because Trump doesn’t believe women should lead one of the uniformed services.

Which of course makes her the perfect pick for Trump.

Turns out that Laura Loomer doesn’t like Casey Means any more than the last Surgeon General pick.

And Nicole Shanahan says RFK Jr. promised her that Means would not be in the administration.

The LA Times has more info on why Means didn’t finish her head and neck surgery residency:

So she was anxious when it came to taking full responsibility for a patient’s care.

Considering the quality of the medical advice she gives nowadays, she had, and has, reason to be anxious.
