Trump's Republican primary campaign

A poster notes that Trump presents himself as powerful and demonstrates that he is capable of some intelligence in his reptilian brain, but obviously does not read. What would there be to attack?

Noting that a person who has been a celebrity for many years does not fall on his face in interviews does not encourage me to vote for a delusional, uneducated, narcissist, but if seeing him depicted that way makes you happy, that is fine with me. I, for example, never accused GWB of being stupid. He was not. He was, instead, lazy, making up his mind based on personal feelings and ignoring any evidence that did not support them. How is Trump different, (aside from being even less informed than Bush)?

I’m as far away from a Trump supporter as it’s possible to be, but this is a non-story and a lame attempt to throw mud would only help his campaign.

Once again, if I were Trump (shudder), and a reporter asked me that question, I’d simply say: “When being asked a question, I often nod to show I’ve heard and understood the question. Then, what I actually say, is my position on the subject.”

Then, regarding Muslims in America, I’d do what Trump normally does: just deflect and give a non-answer. Something like:
“With regards to Muslims in America, America is a diverse country and I’m proud of that. But Islamic fundamentalism does present a problem to the world and we must do all we can to address it”.

Yes–I’ve been hearing this nothingness for a quite a while, now, and I don’t need to see it written. He’ll say whatever he thinks will get him on the good side of this small portion of the voters, who are getting much more attention than they deserve. He’s the ultimate panderer. However much he may claim to be some kind of outsider who’s “fed up” with the ways of Washington, he actually is a total politician who will say whatever he thinks these people want to hear. He’s spewing out these answers of nothingness, but they don’t care, because they can’t tell the difference.

Latest (and post-debate) poll:

Trump: 24%
Fiorina: 15%
Carson: 14%
Rubio: 11%
Bush: 9%

The never-held-a-political-office candidates, in aggregate: 53%.

New (and post-debate) NBC-sponsored poll:

Trump: 29%
Carson: 14%
Fiorina: 11%
Bush: 8%
Cruz: 7%
Rubio: 7%

Ignorant dipshits, closing in on unanimous.

This one’s a SurveyMonkey poll. So I’m going to put a lower weight on this than even the Morning Consult (who?) poll.

The only ‘real’ poll we have since Wednesday’s debate is the latest CNN/ORC poll that Terr mentioned in post 224. Again, it’s only one poll, but it confirms that Fiorina was the big winner on Wednesday, and apparently Rubio also gained a bit of ground. Losers were Trump (have we finally passed Peak Trump? ;)), Carson, and Walker, whose support in this poll was down to 0%. Everybody else kinda went sideways, it seems.

Waiting on confirmation from other pollsters, as usual.

The GOP race has become even harder to read with three outsiders at the top the CNN poll.

How will the GOP establishment react to Fiorina? She is better prepared than Trump or Carson and probably much more acceptable to them but her HP record is likely to be a serious liability in the general. Still they will be happy to have her draw support away from Trump.

I think race is much more unpredictable than 2012. Then, while Romney struggled against Perry, Cain, Gingrich and Santorum, he was at least consistently in second place and with 15-20% support . By contrast Jeb has been in single digits for weeks and is in fifth place in that CNN poll. It’s hard to see him as the front-runner anymore but then if it’s not him then who?

Trump seems to be still counting on the Birther vote and/or the ignorant fool vote:

Ah, the old Fox News “some people say” tactic. Nice.

You mean the SurveyMonkey that was the only one that accurately predicted the Tories win in the UK?

What’s their track record over here?

Zogby Analytics poll:

Trump: 33%
Carson: 13%
Bush: 9%
Fiorina: 7%
Cruz: 5%

IOW, the nutbars have a solid majority.

It is fitting that Trump is going to be replaced by an immigrant.

Two of his 3 wives are immigrants.

It’s kinda ironic that Zogby poll is showing that Trump is growing his support after the debate - after this commentary by Zogby after the debate:

http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/Zogby-Debate-GOP-Trump/2015/09/17/id/691975/

In a post-debate interview with hosts Ed Berliner and J.D. Hayworth, the polling analyst declared Trump “begins the process of losing points tonight.”

“He was a big loser in the debate tonight,” Zogby said. “Look for him to go down.”

“The summer flirtation is over,” Zogby added.

And the latest poll:

Trump: 32%
Carson: 12%
Bush: 11%
Fiorina: 6%
Rubio: 5%
Cruz: 5%

To recap: after the debate, there were 4 polls so far. One (CNN’s) showed Trump dropping 8%. Three others show Trump increasing his lead. Guess which poll gets quoted by everyone (most famously by NBC when questioning Trump, even though they conducted their own poll and promptly ignored it)?

Oh, well, if the bomb-throwers in Congress force a government shutdown, CNN will have to patch into the New Horizons data feed in search of a poll showing Trump’s lead increasing by less than a dozen points over the top Establishment candidate.

New post-debate Iowa poll - Trump increases his lead

Mr. Trump had the support of 24 percent of Hawkeye State Republicans in the survey released Tuesday by the Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling, followed by Mr. Carson at 17 percent and Ms. Fiorina at 13 percent.

“For all the controversy over the last six weeks Donald Trump’s in a slightly stronger position now than he was after the first debate,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling.

Fifth after-debate national poll: Trump’s numbers didn’t change, still leads by big margin:

Trump: 24%
Carson: 15%
Fiorina: 10%
Rubio: 7%
